I usually lift around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, about 4 or 5 days a week

I read an article in the newest issue of muscle and fitness that shows that people who workout after 6 pm over a period of 10 weeks gained more lean mass and decreased their bf% significantly more than those who worked out in the morning.

It makes sense if you think about it, but the one draw back is that you might not be as strong at night as you would be during the day or in the morning. So if you are going for strength i wouldnt recommend night workouts over morning or afternoon workouts.

my schedule is pretty open so im gonna switch to working out at night, like around 8 or so, and ill let you kno if i notice any changes.

i work out at 8, i use to go at 7 in the morning. You can be as strong as you want to be at anytime as long as you put your mind to it.

I'm a night person, so I like to go at night. I think its different strokes for different folks. But sleeping after you lift is probably really good for your recovery.

test levels are highest in the mornings. But I think that you shouldn't work out so soon after waking...something about the back being more injury prone or something. I forget :o

I've been squatting at 10am on Sundays for about 2 years now and have yet to hurt myself squatting. Pulling in the evenings during the week is another story though.

I think part of it is people don't take the time to properly warm up, if you've been up all day and moving around it's different then hopping out of bed and putting a loaded bar on your back.

What time do you wake up? just curious. cuz if you're waking up at like 7am it probably wouldn't matter

I agree about warming up..I do a few dynamic warmup stretches before every lowerbody day.

    over complicating things

work out when you have time (or can make time) if you have lots of time, pick the time when you are most energized and will have the best workout.

I dont think it really matters. At least mentally I'm all balls when I hit the gym entrance. The body follows with what it can. But either way I seem to be ready in the afternoons the best.

Should really matter though especially if you take a stimulant before hand.

I've always found that mid-afternoon will give the best workouts. I'm talking 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I get up at 4:30am though.

I WO at night. It just fits our natural schedule better...

    - You have a full days worth of food in you.
    - You sleep within a few hours allowing your body to rest and rebuild.

CT from T-nation says it takes 3hr of being awake to have your CNS 1005 prepared for lifting

That said, since I work out at home, I lift whatever time of day I feel like. Sometimes it's first thing. Sometimes it's 2am (yes really).. other times it's middle of the afternoon.

well I try to get up at 8am but usually it ends up being 8:45-9:00 with enough time to put some clothes on, grab a PB&J and run out the door.
