I have an opportunity to pick one up for well under market, and I was wondering what the general consensus was on them. Aesthetically, they're a bit odd for a BMW, but the more I see them in real life, the more I like them.

    Specs:
    08' 135i
    6MT
    Sports Pkg
    22k Miles

Retarded car. Not just overpriced, but underpowered too. And small.

Don't buy just for the brand in this case, I don't think anybody cares

Underpowered compared to what? You've probably never driven one.

I have an 09 135i and I love it. Haven't regretted the purchase at all.

Any notable problems (fuel pump, burns oil, etc.)?

nobody buys a 135i because it looks great...

people buy it because it is one of the funnest and fastest cars in the lineup, the fastest non-M car BMW makes, highly tuneable, extremely agile, and great as a dialy driver as well as a weekend track car.

outstanding interior (compared to an equivalent 3), M-accents, 6 piston brembo brakes, easily modded to near 400 crank HP on a chip alone.... stock 0-60 in 4.7, 1/4mi in 13.2 @109mph....

find me a car that does better under $40k

Oh, I agree the performance is undisputed. I guess I just need to nut-up and go drive one the weekend. I'll let you guys know what I think.

I love them, would love to have one. It's a minimalist BMW that'll blow the doors off most cars on the road. Only downside is that it's rather heavy for its size, but it has some nice convenience/luxury features.

Well if you can get past it's looks it's a pretty fun ride. Personally I would save 30k and get myself a mint E30 325is, but that's just me.

I think the looks are amazing. Its a BMW with hips. If you stand behind it you will see that the tires are under actual flares with the quarters, doors, and fenders being narrower.

If you can get anything under-market you should really consider it simply because you may be able to sell it in a little bit of time for more money or a break even.

Picked it up November 10th, 2009 and have 4100 miles. The color is Cashmere Silver Metallic.

No major or even minor issues so far. Had to take it in to the dealer to have something reprogrammed. I've heard the fuel pump issues, but haven't seen any of those symptoms yet on mine. Even got a letter from BMW saying if I do experience anything, I should bring it in immediately.

I see a bunch 335i on the road, but rarely see a 135i (or a 128i either). I get comments on it everywhere I go (not gay comments either). My only complaint is its liberal use of fuel. It wasn't uncommon for me to get around 300 miles/tank, but that was with some very spirited driving. I'm making a point to drive a little more conservatively and am estimating around 350 miles on this current tank. The car just begs for some throttle!

    Overall, I'd recommend it.

Do it and spend another $600 to chip it and you've got a 400hp beast

If they use the same fuel pump as the e92 3-series, the original fuel pump was designed poorly and will need to be replaced pretty quickly. I heard the replacement had the same issues as the original, but the new pump they have now is built very well.

    Fantastic car.

My only gripe is weird, minor cut-backs compared to the 3-series. Such as halogen lamps instead of LED lamps in the brake lights. Really? Why?? There's a bunch of tiny nitpicks like this all over that seem unnecessary, especially since you are paying just about the same price as a comparable 3-series. Nevertheless, the 135 specifically is a brilliant performer. Approximately as fast as the Nissan 370Z all the way up to 200KM/h, where the Bavarian eeks out quicker. All that with two seats extra in the back (not like anyone could fit in them... but they're there)!

Rumors of an M1 (or rather, 1M) are floating around. Not really seeing what they can do, since this one here pretty much stuffs the engine bay and has two turbochargers. However, this is badass enough. Can't really see a M badge granting that much more power, braking, roadholding, etc.

I recently brought my 335 in for long cranks, which ended up not being a fuel pump issue according to them. Although, my service advisor claimed he had both new 335's and 135's at home under 7k miles each, both already having fuel pump issues :dunno:

He said BMW has gone through 3 different vendors for the fuel pumps now and have continued to have the issue with the N54. He thinks it's a problem with the twin turbo engine, and says the F30 will have single turbo's along other design changes to avoid this problem in the future.

Any truth to this? We'll see..

Other than that - I can only imagine the 135i is just as much if not more fun than my 335, and

I am getting some long cranks on my 2009 135i. I think I just hit 5500 miles too. Going to give it to the dealer next week when I have surgery, since I won't really need it for the time being.
