I'm looking at a '92 TT, 5-speed with 87k miles. it's that pearl white color... Just curious what OT thinks of these cars in terms of reliable transportation. I'm planning using this as my daily driver (using a POS '92 lincoln continental now). I always wanted one, but I'm not sure I want to pay 5k for a daily driver.

Also, you can hear a ticking sound from the motor, but I can't tell what it is. Sounds to me like a valve ticking... (it honestly sounds like a lifter ticking, but these cars are obviously DOHC). it had it's 60k service at 65k miles, if it helps.

    thoughts?

3KGT and Stealth are not DOHC they have 4 camshafts and are a bitch to do a timing job on.

As far as reliability, I dont know, but I do know that they are expensive and difficult to work on.

They are not too reliable; they are notorious for transmission problems. BUT assuming you have one that was not ragged on, had all scheduled maintenance performed, and is in good working condition, there's no reason it shouldn't be reliable if taken care of. The problem is so many of them were ragged on.

They are very easy to make fast, also, but hard to work on on some things.

3KGT's are definitely DOHC, they also have 2 heads, so they are DOHC*2.

Stock or with a few light mods they are fine, heavily modded they can bork.

Not knocking, but the cars are VERY heavy. Not bad for a daily driver, but don't plan on auto-xing or having a "Tossable" car.

thanks for the replies. For the most part, this one will stay stock. Little or no performance mods. I've got another ride that gets modded, so I'm basically just looking for a decent daily driver that'll still scoot!.

Yes, 3900+ lbs and I didn't find the brakes to be as good as they should be.

He was asking 7800, but is down to around 6k. I told him I'd do something in the high 4's with the motor the way it is (drove perfectly fine accept the it seemed to idle around 1500 : confused : )...

    yay or nay?

    Newbie.

IT is a DOHC V6... meaning it has 2 camshafts per bank, "V" motors have 2 banks. 2x2=4, so yes it has 4 cams. :hsugh:

Yes but I was stating it that way because alot of people think of a DOHC 6 cylinder as a straight 6 which would indeed only have 2 camshafts. I was merely trying to make sure that he knows that it has 4 camshafts and that they are in fact a BITCH to do a timing belt on.

    I dunno, I guess I wouldn't call it a DOHC V6 myself.

Timing belt jobs are not hard if you know what you're doing. Just have to get the cams lined up at TDC and bring up the pistons from the middle to TDC.

And they are DOHC, 2 cams over each cylinder.

I would rather get a 6-spd VR-4 than any 5-spd. Keep looking bro, there's at least one out there for ya.

the kids had it listed for months and can't get rid of it. I first called him in early September and I'm pretty sure he still has it (I know he had it in early november). He started at 7800 and has come to down to 6k. With the way the motor ticks (much louder than other TT's/VR4's i've heard).

These ricers always ask twice as much as their cars are worth.

actually, I believe it books in the high 7's.

what's ricey about the StealthTT and VR4's? Thats's Mitsu's flagship. Cars like the VR4, 300zxTT, RX7, and Supra's are not ricey at all.

If the car has not yet sold, and it's at that price, then there's something quite wrong with it.

Therefore, he's asking too much for a broken car.

Therefore, he must think his car is the end-all-be-all. Therefore, he's a ricer.

Thus you would be wrong and everyone else in the world would be right. This is not a semantics arguement.

I know a few people with them, and they're always having little problems. :(

Oh, and if Mitsubishi knew what was good for them they'd say "Twin Dual Overhead Cam" like the leaky GM V6.

i've had a 3000GT since 2001. i've only had ONE problem out of it, and that was due to a faulty fram oil filter blowing off.

The same thing has been known to happen on a 4G63. Some people wire them on so they cant come off.

i've since stopped using anything fram..... i pulled out of the drive way on a cool day, gunned it, and when the oil pressure shot up, the oil filter shot off lol. it took the threads of my filter adapter housing with it too.
