I know the concensus is whey protein for like pre/post protein fix (I personally prefer food over a shake for its thermic value, but shakes work if protein amount is low)

But do you mix in casein at all during the day or glutamine? I am a bit confused on the purpose of both. Casein is a slow digesting protein, and glutamine increases metabolism or decreases cellular structure (from what I understand) -but my question is when would you take these items?

Glutamine is pretty much worthless... I've never seen any evidence that it actually does anything to increase recovery, help build muscle or increase metabolism. I have no idea what you are referring to when you say "decreases cellular structure" though.

Casein = best before bedtime as it is slow digesting. But really you can use it any time. I use a protein blend of whey, egg protein and casein. That way you're always digesting some protein.

I mean decreases cellular breakdown, my bad. I was thinking of doing a slight mix of casein in morning and at night. What amount of time is there between when u take the casein and when u actually sleep?

I usually either have a shake post workout or 1cup lowfat cottage cheese, 2 eggs, and 3oz of Black forest ham. pretty tasty when all mixed together and it comes to about 45-55g of protein.

I use to take casein before bed with milk to slow the digestion even more when I was bulking (EvoPro is a great casein protein and nicely priced). Now I take it when I wake up and head to the gym and whenever I want some extra protein (I ordered a lot of the stuff at one point so I have lots of tubs sitting around).
