I'm thinking about getting a "carpe diem" (latin for "seize the day" if you don't know) in a banner sort of format across my collar/upper pec region the whole way across my chest. anyone have anything of sort? thoughts on this? it would be meant as a reminder to get myself off my ass and live life...

btw, anyone here good with photoshop to do a mock-up pic?

Eh... seems cliche to me. Unless of course, it really does mean something to you.

I'd go smaller than across your whole chest too.

Good friend of mine that reads latin said they misuse carpe in that saying. I can't remember ATM what it actually meant though.
I prefer carpe noctem, but that's just me. Hey, if it makes you happy.

I'd have to ask her about it. :dunno:
When I say misuse..It was something close to that, but a bit off.

Found this somewhere out there on the net. Sounds like what she said.

Horace lived from then on on a farm in the Sabine Hills given him by Maecenas.
What surprised me, though, was to learn that the Latin verb carpere really doesn't mean "seize." It means "to pluck" or " to pick," in the sense of picking ripe fruit. It's an agricultural term. Vergil used it, too, when the sibyl advises Aeneas to pluck the golden bough by hand: carpe manu.

So, carpe diem means "pluck the day." Gives the phrase quite a different color, doesn't it? It becomes a farmer's metaphor, or a gardener's. Pluck the day. Now, as I think of what the phrase means, I must think of patience--a whole lot has to happen before we pick that succulent tomato the last week of June. Gardeners and farmers work hard and wait, all at the same time.

One could easily interpret that as having pretty much the same meaning as "seize."

the kid is a complete retard, failed out of freshman college year with a .4 GPA...parents gave him 40,000 for it ( :dunno: ) ; he just bought a 2002 r6 after riding my motorcycle for a few weeks. He's never ridden before; has nothing besides a borrowed helmet, and is basically going to adhere to natural selection in the next few weeks with that bike.
