My uncle is thinking of selling his truck in a couple months and asked if I was interested. He keeeps all of his vehicles in immaculate condition.

    1995 2WD Ford Ranger
    89000 miles
    4.0L V6 w/ auto trans
    Extended cab

Anything I should know/beware of about these Rangers?

in all seriousness, the mileage is low, sounds like its probably a good truck.

my bro had a 95 4x4 4.0 5 speed. Was actually a good truck. But the automatic hubs on the 4x4s were complete crap, and he changed them for manual hubs. You'd have a 4x2 so you wouldnt have to worry about it.

Go for it man, sounds like a good deal.

    Basically forgot about this thread...

I finally got a chance to take a good look at it and drive it. Everything looked good and it drove well. Exterior looks nearly new.

He told me before he wanted basically trade-in value for it. Today he said he would sell it to me for $1k.

    1k= good deal.
For prerunner conversion, that would make an excellent truck. Dump the 4.0 for a 302, drop some Giant equal-length I-beams with 18" Fox 2.5's. Then a Camburg 3-link setup, or a giant 64" leaf spring with some smoothies.

Yea I'm not sure I can do a 302 swap here (fucking hippies). I'll probably not do a whole lot to it for a little while.

Off road anything goes, even here. Just probably cant pass an emissions test with a 302 swap. If it wasnt going to be my DD then I'd consider doing it.

I have a couple dirt bikes that get me around in the desert quite well too.

Just get a 4.8 out of the mustang and you should pass emmissions.

    :werd:

They are decent light (around 3000lbs give or take) and have the room for the motor, just like S10's with a 350.

Yes they are. One is meant for a lighter sports car, the other is meant for a heavy SUV.

The engine knows that kind of weight it is moving.

Price(Hmm, which could be cheaper?)
Not to mention that there are kits to drop the 5.0 in, but the mustang engine needs to be custom fit(ask me not)

please provide the source of your wisdom. the blocks are the same, both will require aftermarket mounts. the mustang exhaust manifolds may not clear the ranger's frame, but if you're doing a swap like this, who sticks with stock manifolds anyway?

as for cheaper... a junkyard engine is a junkyard engine. year and mileage have a shit ton more to do with the price than what car it came out of.

A 5.0 out of an 89 Mustang will be cheaper than one out of a 95 Explorer.
