Friend asked me to recommend some sort of self protection device. Living in the northeast, she cant really pickup a carry permit. What do you guys recommend for a female to protect herself? The states are Connecticut and new york. Goes to school in CT and lives generally in NY. No tasers either as they are illegal in both states.

    Thanks for any help.

A cell phone and good situational awareness. OC if it makes her feel better, but I see it as a somewhat hollow sense of security. Anyone who is determined enough to really attack her will only be annoyed by OC, but may be avoided, and anyone who the OC would actually stop would be that much simpler to avoid.

I tend to agree, and would avoid the spray altogether, since it has a nasty habit of affecting the user, as well. If pressed, I'd say Mace Pepper Gel, or the foam, since the wind isn't as likely to pwn you with your own defensive device...

Situational awareness trumps most defensive devices, anyway, since it's proactive, while defense is reactive.
