Truthfully are the worth the money? I have heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about them... Im 20 yrs old, have about 10,000 saved up and live in va, where it snows once in a while. I have always loved the wrx, but most people tell me the srt4 is a better deal and is built better. All favortisms aside what do you think?

wrx > srt4... but I'd rather ride a bicycle than drive an srt4.

I hate the wrx, btw... Don't get it.

The WRX's weak point is the tranny. but if you're nice to it you shouldn't have any problems. Im pretty ham fisted but drive mostly conservatively and I havent had any problems in 20k miles (that were all accumulated in a year)

if you like modding, the WRX is a good car to do it with. I've spent about 8k so far and Im nowhere near done :hs: one of the things I am going to do is beef up the tranny. should cost around 2k if I can find someone to cut me somewhat of a deal on the gearset installation.

the SRT-4 is a good deal for the price, but I fucking hate FWD :hs:

edit: from what Ive heard, the subie is built much much better... then again I've been a subie sackrider for years and have never been much of a dodge fan :o

So is there any difference between the 02 and 04, than the headlights?

if you ask anyone on NASIOC, you can't put on a turboback exhaust (or any other kind of engine mods) without engine management on an 04 because it will lead to detonation. I have an 04 with a TBE and no EM and havent had any trouble though... I suspect most of the people with problems live in CA and have that shitty 91 octane gas.

the interior is a little different also (mainly the seats, also the tach is in the middle of the gauge cluster instead of on the side)

plus the 04-05's antenna is embedded in the rear window, in earlier models its on the A pillar

05's get different wheels and painted sideskirts, also the dash was redesigned a bit

that's all I can think of right now :hs:

the WRX is the most fun car I have ever driven. best all around car under $25k. And with an STi RA gearset and clutch, they are unbreakable. I  my wrx

I think that's only true for the STI, not the WRX

    (I'm on NASIOC)

02-03 and 04-05 wrx differences also include:

-rear lights are different (04-05s are curved at the bottom)
-suspension on 04-05 is slightly stronger, forgot the technical spec diff.
-02/3 have yellow badged momo s.wheel, 04 have red, 05 have 3 spoke momo etched wheel
    -02/03 have fr side lights, 04-05 doesn't

there seems to be a ton of difference....all very minimal

I hope it is. but I could have sworn I saw countless threads dedicated to det on 04 WRXs. I dont have an STI, so I dont pay much attention to STI threads :p but like I said, I hope Im wrong :hs:

My dad owned a WRX, and I want one really badly now. The SRT-4 is a piece of shit. Check the recalls out on them then you won't want one.

I have a few friends here in Houston that have put DPs on their 04s. No problems whatsoever.

    Mine is a daily driver, have put ~50k on it in a little less than 2 years. In those 2 years, the only problems I have had are;

-Squeaky drivers side window (this was due to the window rubbing on the weatherstripping, a little lube fixed this)

-Clutch shudder (IIRC, this is fixed in the later 03's. Nothing serious, just irritating, and quite infrequent)

Take care of the car, and it will last a long time. I do all my own maintenance.

People complain about the tranny on the WRX. IMHO, those with problems are abusing it. You can not speed shift, you need to let the syncro's do their job.

Anyways, I chose the WRX wagon because it handles quite well, has decent power and is a pretty safe car. I like the AWD, I have taken it to a road couse a few times, and held my own.

Here is a picture of mine, ignore the huge fender gap, the drivers side is in a rut and makes the gap look huge.

thanks... hearing that is reassuring :bigthumb:

I personally havent seen any problems myself, but Im a car n00b and my car would have to have some serious problems before I would notice detonation or anything. plus I don't get into boost all that often (so why im doing a turbo swap is beyond me, hehe... mostly to shut up people who say subarus are slow, I guess)

Oh yeah, my biggest complaint about the WRX is the thin paint. If you look at it wrong, it will chip. My front end is full of rock chips.

    Mine too

my sideskirts also, but thats not Subaru's fault, I had a guy paint them and he painted the welting also (black strip on top) which is supposed to be pulled off and reapplied after the side skirt has been painted :hs: so now they're chipping too... I seriously think I'm going to go out and get a CF hood (cause my hood is fucked) and the chargespeed body kit (cause my sideskirts are fucked too).

but all that seems to be a lot of trouble and I dont know if I want to draw all kinds of attention to myself with those body modifications. :noes:

Not a fan of the CF hoods, unless they are painted. I just started looking at the rock chips as battle wounds :noes:

The entire front bumper/air dam is peppered with chips. The hood has its fair share.

can't beat an SRT-4 in terms of price if you want a nice straight line car. if you like to turn when you drive, go for the WRX.
