    pocket carry with no holster

carrying in such a manner that a casual observer could notice the weapon

carrying where you aren't legally allowed (post office, etc)

    • Not practicing, not getting training. (being able to shoot while moving defensively, shooting from cover, etc)
    • Not pre selecting a lawyer who specializes in defensive shootings. (really don't want to deal with this after the fact)
    • Not being aware of their surroundings, scanning for threats, avoiding putting themselves in vulnerable positions.
    • Not developing a routine for gunning up or un-gunning when the get in and out of a car, taking a dump, etc. This is where stupid stories like guns getting left in public restrooms happen etc.
    • Not knowing the laws of what is a justified shoot, and a unjustified shoot.

  5. A mistake people who are new to carrying make is that they are too conscious about their own gun. You keep looking to see if it's printing, and moving it with your arm. You draw more attention to it than anything else. It's going to feel like you've got a refrigerator attached to your side until you get used to it. The truth is, most people wouldn't notice if you did have a refrigerator attached to you, so stop worrying about it.

just curious, what happens when starting out if you do walk in to unlawful places like a post office etc, and someone notices? Do they ask you to leave, or are you in deep shit?

Depends on too many factors. Typically you will probably be asked to remove your weapon. So in many states where it is common to CCW that means a trip to your car. This would be the best outcome if spotted by a reasonable person who was framilar with the laws.

If say you were spotted by a person of athoriety who wanted to make an issue out of it you could be fined, or charged with a misdermeanor or felony.

    All of these for sure.

I think the biggest mistake that people make is that they think that just having a firearm makes them safe. Take some classes. Read some books. Practice, a lot.

Make sure you know the laws for your area too.

Werd. These are the biggest, and most common, mistakes.

Not informing the officer that you are armed if you are ever detained.

In FL if you walk into a commercial establishment (i.e. store or business of some kind) and are asked to leave because you are carrying a gun you need to leave ASAP with no fuss or you can be charged with armed (criminal) trespass. If you get caught carrying in a Federal/State Office Building or School you are in BIG trouble and will most certainly face charges unless you can get out of there before the LEO's arrive.

Thanks for the input. What are the safest/most unsafe pistols to carry? I know it ultimately depends on the person to be responsible for the firearm but I'm sure there are some less desirable carries.

I don't practice enough, but I'm aware of it. Funds are low and ammo isn't exactly free.
