I'm getting ready to go in a few weeks, already send the B bag and footlocker off in the connex. Is there anything I should get that I normally wouldnt think of? I'm just trying to be as prepared as possible.

What's your MOS? Combat Arms or support?

    various sizes of freezer-type baggies.
more rechargeable batteries than you think you'll need, and two chargers.
    surge protector and extension cord.
comfortable folding web chair, w/drink holder
    fan

If I remember more, I'll post up. Some of it will depend on whether or not you'll be going out on combat patrols or staying mainly at the FOB.

really good polarized sunglasses like the Oakley M Frames, cold weather gloves, nomex gloves, beanie, fleece jacket, goggles x2 (2 types) with inserts and foam padding, neck gaiter, fleece overalls

some stuff they will issue but these where the stuff my battle buddies got when they went and told me to get before I leave in December

They all mentioned to get the sunglasses and goggles with foam padding or I will regret it...

Some good stuff there, baggies and batteries are always easy to find uses for. You already did one smart thing by sending that extra stuff in a connex, carrying only what you absolutely need when you get there is the best thing to do. Anything not absolutely needed I would have friends/family ship to you when you find out exactly what you are going to be doing and where you will be staying. There is a good chance you will get more RFI stuff in country even if you have already been through RFI here, it sucks buying things you think you might need only to be issued something identical or better.

We will get RFI in country, they already told us that. Our company bought us tons of cool shit. Camel backs, goggles, eco sights, thigh holsters, and some other cool shit.

I should have put a small fake xmas tree in my footlocker before we shipped the connex. :(

They let you take a footlocker?

Cold weather gear...it's going to start getting cold here soon.

What is your job, and where will you be heading?

I got that tree at Garden Ridge for like 5 bucks and still have it, it's about 6" tall and the branches are flexible so they fold up to make it even smaller for transport. I even had a set of battery powered lights for it.

Yep, a footlocker and a duffel bag in the connex. I put like extra soap, socks, paper, and shit like that in the footlocker.

I'm an MP, and i'll be heading up north.

Good idea. And an external usb hard drive would also come in handy. People are sharing mp3's/videos/pics/etc all the time over there. It'd be handy to be able to do a big dump of whatever a guy has when he's in the mood to share, and then delete whtever you don't want later.

Most of 'em don't need a power source, other than the USB port. Good stuff.

I have a 20gig mp3 player, and my laptop. But an external USB hard drive sounds like a good idea.

Anyone mention baby wipes? Great for that quick get-fresh feeling.

Bring your credit card info for shopping online. Amazon.com does ship to Iraq and it usually takes 7-10 days sometimes as quick as 6 days.

Also, if you are not into pron then you can still order it and trade it to the Iraqis for whiskey... or so I am told :joshers:
