I have a hate/love relationship with Nintendo. They make some of the greatest games out there; Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong. However, Nintendo is so out of touch of what makes gamers happy. They always say things like this and we all hope they will make more mature games, but in reality they always go back and make some of the most dorky and silly games. I think it has to do with Nintendo being an asian company. Most asian gamers in Japan love those big eyed, kiddy, silly characters in games. The american market has changed since Nintendo was king in 1993. We are 12 years past all of that hubub. The american market is the biggest share for video game developers and creators. American gamers do not like kiddy games. Proof: Grand Theft Auto and Halo are great examples of games that have surpassed the sales that any nintendo game could. Why? Those games are more mature and have a feeling when you are playing them that they are catered to your mentality. I am 25 and I cant play games that are made for 10 year olds. I have grown up and so should Nintendo. I have been with Nintendo since the NES but now is the time to say Nintendo doesnt care about the hardcore fans.

I hope I did not offend any asians. My intentions were not to.

I'd have to disagree here.. the most hardcore fans are usually the ones that can appreciate the games, regardless how they look. The GTAs and Halos have brought games waay more mainstream, and with all these new mainstream gamers, has come the more sales of the pretty looking "mature" games and less of the innovative "kiddy" games. Nintendo games have a wide appeal, and thats what they try for. Its a shame people don't give them a chance because they look "silly" :hs:

I dont want them to appease the mass market. I want them to make fun games. Thats what they do, and I love them for it.

If you try to give everyone what they want you just end up with a bland mush. So instead of doing that, developers should just make what THEY think is fun gameplay and make it as good as they possibly can. It should be a work of art from their own creativity, not an attempt to recreate the latest fad.

The artists you read about in an art history class arent the ones that were doing the exact same stuff as everyone else. The famous ones are the ones that tried new things and did what they wanted.

I'd have to say Nintendo is a smart and good company in my mind. I think you have a good vision of Nintendo. I don't think you have the best vision of which ever other companies your quote was trying to represent. Oh well.

If Nintendo was smart they would have marketed the Gamecube in a way that didn't lead to near catastrophy

I quit liking Nintendo after I bought the Nintendo 64. Until they build a system as good as their competition, if not better I will not buy one. However they do make the best handheld systems. Another irritating thing about Nintendo is they are more biased towards making kids games rather than adult games.

Nintendo is quite simply quality over quantity.

I got more enjoyment out of SSBM than I ever did out of GTA. :)
