Calling Hellsing fantastic is like a 15 year old calling Budweiser a fantastic alcoholic beverage.

You really need to go watch some quality anime before you classify Hellsing as anything but mediocre.

I suggest starting off with Berserk, Kenshin Remniscience (1st OVA), 12 Kingdoms, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, Full Metal Panic (All 3 seasons), Azumanga Daioh, GTO (Grand Teacher Onuzuka) and to a lesser extent Gundam Seed.

Those animes cover basically every genre available within anime and are probably the epitome of each. I might have forgotten some very good ones, but those are good starting ones.

After watching Avatar, universally raved as one of the best American cartoons created, I can now see why American cartoons will never be but a pale shadow in comparison to genuine Japanese anime.

But that's just your perspective and what you like. I like a handful of anime. A lot of it is... eh. I have seen Gundam Seed. But again, all of those are just what you like. Im sure beyond a doubt there's a lot of things i like that you wont.
