The action has NEVER been this smooth.
I use mobil1 grease on my guns. Bonus: its pink.
I thought about greases but I'm not sure what to look for.
why not clp?
I like it in slidey places like rails, barrels and the like.
All I've ever used. For colder temps I run ATF.
Too thin, with the loose tolerances on the AK it just seems to vanish.
Right, I imagine a good grease would be perfect for the rails and the BCG, I just don't know what kinds of grease are acceptable. Plain jane white lithium grease?
I've always found lithium to dry out with time in other applications. I just went to the can of mobil 1 grease. I'd be just as happy with any tub of wheel bearing grease I think.
Ultimately if its lubricated, I don't think it matters. I don't see the stresses from a gun being that tremendous. I'm not an engineer though...
I'm using gun butter on all my guns. It stays where you put it, you don't need a lot of it, and carbon does not stick to it nor does it cook off.
I've tried most of the flavor of the month stuff. The two lubes I think are acutally worth any kind of money is slide glide and gun butter. Actually slide glide would be pretty interesting in a AK as loose as it is. Going to try it in a few years when I clean my AK again. I cleaned and lubed it with gun butter when I put the new furniture on.
Anyone else take their AK's in the shower with them to clean them?
When I was living in a godforsaken apartment, I had a guy from Red Jacket Arms (the guys who built my AK) tell me that's what they did with theirs. So I tried it, and have done it ever since.
Just take the gun into the shower with you, add a little Dawn soap and give it a good scrubbin, and let all the nasty shit wash down the drain and outta your life. No mess to cleanup afterwards. Then take the gun outside, and hose it down with something that displaces water (brake parts/carb cleaner, mineral spirits, gun scrubber, etc) and lube as necessary.
Works like a charm, and you don't have to mess with all the dirt/grime floating around.
Also, I'm a firm believer that spending a little nudie time with your gun helps solidify a "bond" with it, which generally translates into smaller agg's and about .347sec off reloads/transitions. Win/Win.
i took a sks in the shower with me one time.
God that thing was filthy!
i will not lie, i have owned my AK for a couple years and have put a couple cases through it and have never cleaned it. it doesn't need it, so why bother? :whereisthesmilieforhidingunderthesofa:
I think its fucking ridiculous that these companies charge $10.00 for 2-4oz of oil...
I use M1 15w-50 on all my handguns, I don't even bother to lube the AK.
What, did you fabricate a fleshlight insert into the trapdoor on your stock?
Same here. I've shot at lest a couple thousand through mine and only cleaned it after I got it.
Suppressor/Fleshlight. The other end is more dangerous and oh so naughty.
I lightly lube my Ar firing pin. I just don't over do it.
Actually I way overlube my competition guns. I like my guns like I like my women, wet. My gunsmiths know this. They make a joke they need to open a new roll of shop towels when I bring a gun in.
I use grease I get from work. But I've used motor oil before too. I'm not picky.
I've jumped in the shower and had some soapy fun with my AK before
I usually clean my AK in the kitchen sink. I clean out the gas tube and gas block with hot soapy water then I use solvent, then lube. Haven't had any rust issues yet.
I don't suggest you married guys do this or your wife will beat the hell out of you.
not so much my AK once a year I take my reloader and put it in the kitchen sink and blast it with break cleaner, rinse, blast with break cleaner, compressed air, you get the picture. I do clean my sink up real good afterwards. I told one of my married buddies about this when he asked how I keep my press so clean. He said if he did that he would get slapped in the face, sleep on the couch and no lovin for a month.
I envy you single guys sometimes.
I do the brake cleaner and air compressor, but it stays bolted on the bench. Then a little M1, and I'm off.
i use this stuff.
it's incredible for everything else as well.
haha sucker grease ftw
i get any type of wurth stuff for free b/c it's what we use at work in the shop... i use wurth brake parts cleaner to clean and the hhs to lube.
