They have orchid food at gardening supply stores. Probably have directions for 'em on the packages. I'm good at killing plants :(

Water your orchids within a maximum of three days per week. Orchids vary in water requirements. They are epiphytes, meaning, they do not live on soil thus soaking their roots on water is actually deadly for them. Make sure you provide them with water only when they are nearly drying out.

Expose your orchids in any source of light. Fluorescent and incandescent bulbs are the best sources when keeping orchids in a confined area where sunlight is not available; making them ideal indoor ornamental plant.

Nourish your orchids with fertilizers only once a month. By nature, these plants can survive in a nutrient-lacking environment. A fertilizer is only an enhancement to make orchids bloom with flowers.

Always monitor your orchids against pests. Insects like aphids, mealy bugs, and spider mites love to chew the delicate flowers. However, these pests cannot be easily seen.

Beautiful! and all of this ^^

Also look up what USDA Hardiness Zone you live in. I live in zone 6 which is desert and 0 humidity. For my zone, keeping the plant by an aquarium for increased humidity + lighting as CC mentioned = better chance for survival (but I kill everything too  my poor gardenia :wtc:)

Fertilizer is easy to find - Target, Home Depot, Lowe's. And definitely guard against the bugs.

So a little back ground as to why this is so special to me. I would just have been happy with a hug. But that not possible so he got me a plant that is alive.. and will stay alive for a long time to come... which is symbolic. anyhow

    pictures:

they thought he was just going to fix something on the aircraft.. but when they pulled the breezeway away and shut the door the reality set in for them:

We sat there for a while and watched the jet go as far as we could see.. then went home... knowing we would get call as soon as possible. We take a TON of pics to send to him through email because he can check. Much easier then listing to broken english and dropped calls through the networks.

    We keep busy with swimming:

    bowling:

    and dance:

I do school.. and we do lots of art and book reading.. lol and ofcourse when im working on homework i keep my self busy in HERE insted of doing my homework lol but i still pull As :p

I say once a week. Orchids are increeeeeeeeeeeedibly finnicky. They like light, but not direct sunlight.

My mom has like 2034802984023984 orchids, they're her love, she even names them :hsugh:

I was just going to add the direct sunlight thing. I just bought one for my SO who will be returning home in a few weeks. Oddly enough the tag said to put 3 ice cubes in the pot only once a week to water....

As for the pot, the one I bought was shitty so I got a nice ceramic one and the bark they sell for potting orchids at Home Depot. Only took 15 minutes to repot. Seems to be doing well and another flower opened up.:wavey:
