I think i have mentioned this before here but ONCE AGAIN my issue of moving out has come up again. And the only reason it came up is because earlier this month I was approved by a nearby county for a rental program and today I was able to find a nice place. My friend actually lives in the same area. Rent will be $618 for 1 bedroom/1 bath. I can afford it but I will be tight with cash (for a while).

My parents have said they don't see my point in moving out. My mother wants me to save my money and my father says I will be strapped for cash if I go (which is true). Neither one has said outright they don't want me to leave but they keep telling me stuff as if they are discouraging me from leaving!!

My father even went so far as to say he will let me have the basement and I can call it my own and this is something he never offered before.

I've looked at my finances and I believe I can afford it...I know it will be tight but I have heard, unfornately, thats usually how it is when people join this program.

I just had to vent....I didn't have anyone to vent too so I gotta use OT!!

One thing I can tell you.. you cannot EVER compare living with your parents to having your own place.. TRUST ME. You will feel that once you're offically settled in, you'll come to your senses and realize it was the best decision you've ever made. How old are you btw?

I KNOW! All my friends tell me that living on your own is great!

I am 29yrs old and I am way past due this, I know this! I got into some financial trouble tho and even though I am not out of it completely I will still be able to do this...I'll just be strapped for cash like I said. Prolly won't even be able to go out on dates too often...:(

My father even said he'll put a door going down into the basement if I want :squint:

im sure im not telling you anything new here, but youre 29, its about time you got out of the house. most young people are strapped for cash thats just the way it is. most people are strapped for cash a lot of their life.

on the other side of it, you could live with your parents for another year or two and seriously try to save a lot of money and work a lot and then move out.

Seriously, just leave already. If it costs too much, move to a part of the country where it's cheaper.

Well, the program I joined its good for one year. I was approved so I say why not take advantage of it.
Every day I wait its just wasting away and all the time and effort I spent gettin papers together was for nothing then.

29 huh? Still living with parents? I'd be interested to know just what you expect from living on your own? Freedom? Having parties? Leaving unwashed dishes in the sink?
29 huh? Living at home because you are strapped for cash, but not strapped enough to shell out $618/month? Hmmm...
29 huh? You Dad has offered the "basement" to you. Just exactly what does that mean? Would you have to pay rent, do you already pay rent? Do you have 3 squares a day? Somewhere to do your laundry? Park your car (if you have one?) Use of the TV, telephone, etc?
29 huh? Do you parents still consider you a child?
29 huh? Do you not think it would be better to put your nose to the grindstone for another year, ease you debt?
29 huh? You are an adult. Capable of making your own decisions.
Only you can decide what is best for you.

Best part is the area has a media center w/ a huge big screen tv, a pool table, 3 different pools and lots of good lookin girls, Hopefully single! I think once I get settled in, I'll be spending a lot of time their.

My friend lives like right across the way too.

It's good you didn't listen to them and got your own place. 29 is waaaaaaaaay too old to still be living at home. My parents tried telling me stuff like that when I moved out at 19. They said that it was so hard and that I had no idea what it was really going to be like but I survived just fine. I think parents just don't want to let go and accept that it's time for you to be on your own.

:werd: Mine say it will be financially hard. And I know it will be. Thats what makes me mad cause they tell me things like I don't know about them already. I know I will be cutting back and I know I what have everything like I have now like cable and internet. Those things are luxeries....If I can afford high speed internet, I'll get that but right now I don't know....Might have to go back to using the internet at work.

    Good for you.

Settle in, don't worry about the luxuries at all the first month or two. I remember when I first moved out to my own place I had my computer, my guitar amp as a chair, and a small 12" TV a friend donated to me.

We're talking baaaaaaaaaare... but it was fun to be alone.

Of course it's going to be "hard" all transitions are. But you didn't quit after the first day of school did you?

And you're 29 for chrissakes. Time to stand on your own two feet. A lot of your other issues will disappear too.

Remember too that parents don't always know what's best. As you get older you will realize they are human also (all too much sometimes), with their own prejudices, their own hopes, and fears and limitations.

You must build your own life as you see fit.

Another reason Why I have to get out of here!!

I was talkin to my friend who is a manager in a hotel and I told him I am going to be strapped for cash when I move into the new place. He started tellin me his hotel is lookin for a part time driver and if I was interested. He told me it would only be on Saturdays and Sundays. All i gotta do is take people from the hotel to the airport (which is like 20mins away) and pick up people from the airport and bring them to the hotel. And when their isn't anyone to take, I can just chill out, watch a movie or surf the 'net. The only thing are the hours...they are shitty hours, 4:30am - 1pm. Not the best hours but I figure not too many people will be around early in the morning, anyway. The busiest times will prolly be like 8-10am. And its just driving people back & forth. The pay is only $8/hr + tips.

But when I told my parents this, they freaked out and started saying they don't think its a good idea cause i will prolly fall asleep at the wheel and that I won't be good at it. And then of course they start to give me their "ideas" on other things I should/could do. :ugh:

Why not just accept and support what I want to do??? Why the fuck do I always have to go through a god damn interrogation with them? They've always been this way too.....even when I was with my ex and I used to be with her. Deep down they didn't like her and they doomed that relationship from the fuckin beginning......I have some resentment towards them on that. I don't feel it was right for them to say the things they said about her during our relationship...
even though she broke up with me, I don't feel any hatered/animosity(sp??) towards her.

My 'rents are the same way :hs:. I'm 27 and am only at home because I wanted to save for a condo...but now I can't stand staying here because I get 20 questions every time I come in/go out and they are extra-nosy :ugh: I'd rather pay 1300/month and have my own vs. 250 I am paying now and put up with their spanish inquisitions :mamoru:

Are you on the Fairfax County low income rental assistance program? So am I...but it'll be another 2-3 years before my name comes up :sad2: I can afford to move out now so I minus well :hs:

I'm actually with the Loudoun County Program, ADU.
I put my name on Fairfax's list too but their list is huge.

I just did the interview process with ADU in August and now I got a place in September. The wait was not long at all, plus it was a lil bit of luck too.
Another places I called around their waitlist varied from 2months to 6 months.

My friend pays 1200/month at the EXACT same place I'll be moving into and I'll be payin HALF of that for a 1bedroom place. The area is very very nice.
