Wayde Dunn of Australia (www.waydedunn.com) is doing a short tour here in the States and has done a guest piercing spot at our studio for the past week and a half. Tonight after work he is doing a skin removal scarification piece on my arm that is inspired by my appreciation for tribal african art and culture. Depending on how I feel afterwards , I'll post the pictures tonight. Assuming my photographer doesnt pass out or puke on me, I will hopefully be including pictures of the procedure while its in progress.

I know the rules..no pics, no care. I usually follow that..but im about 3 hours away from the cutting and Im just retardedly stoooooooked. :big grin:

I could never get cut unless I was heavily intoxicated, knocked out, or swimming with some numbing agents

I'm sorry. Where I am there is only a Mac and Im a P.C. user so I can't figure out how to save the pictures I took. I'll download them all tomorrow morning from my computer and put them up. I got some awesome stuff including pictures of the process. :)

I drank a few whiskeys, more because my nerves were totally rattled and I wanted to be relaxed. I just had no concept at all of how it would feel and that made me kinda nervous. But in the end, it turned out to be fairly similar to tattooing..in that the outlining is definately the worst of it while removing the bulk of the skin is pretty much a breeze once thats done. "Damn, you like to bleed, dont you?" , he joked with me. My boyfriend and best girlfriend were there watching and we all 4 joked and laughed throughout the entire procedure. It was awesome. I'm really excited to show you the pictures. Im sorry I couldnt do that tonight.

But check out my assignment: In order to make sure I keloid really well, I have to scrub it with a toothbrush or a loofah and overall just piss it off really bad during the healing. Caucasian people generally dont create raised scars and since that is the look im going for, I have to reallllly piss my skin off in order to make that happen. So that means I have a really fucktastically painful summer to look forward to in the shower every day. Yay!

These are a couple taken from my crappy camera phone..I have much cooler ones being sent to me via email so I'll put them up ASAP.

Ive gotta say this...cutting wasnt so bad. Washing it today, however, was about as close to excrutiating as I've felt in a very long time. I walked over to my bathrack and bit a towel and closed my eyes until the pain went away, it kind of took my breath away. :hs:

The cutting was done in tribute to and inspiration by the Surma tribe, specifically. Their methods of body modification are stunning and extreme and I've always found them so beautiful.

wow! Very interesting! It looks great! What are the risks of infection with this sort of thing? Just thinking it seems pretty risky.

Definately infection can be a risk although through basic hygenic measures this risk is decreased . I am washing the wounds under the advice of the artist 4-6 times daily (which has proven to be EXCRUtiating today, haha). Its really pretty rare when a cutting gets infection, but it can happen. I understand that some methods of healing, ie: wet healing when you keep it wrapped and moisturized, can present a little more risk with bacterial growth as opposed to dry healing, which is the method I'm employing. We chose dry healing because its pretty irritating to my skin and will develop angry scabbing and eventually through constant manipulation will scar more heavily and become raised and keloided.

same as any other open wound. Take care of it, keep it clean, don't pick at it and keep you hands ( and those of others) off of it.
