    Start growing your mullet out now.
    Make sure you get one with the 350, not the 305 or the V6.

    Ditto.. 350 only way to go. I'd rather cut my dick off than drive a 305!!!

    Hey now I got one of those! but girls don't look as nice in mullets so i just got the feathered hair do and wear lotsa hot pink blush, frosted tips pink lipgloss and Lee press-ons...

    and i got the 350, im still not happy, i cant even imagine having to push a 305 ... yeah make sure you get a 350

    umm, excuse me but a 305 TPI is an AWESOME motor. conversely, a 305 TBI (toilet bowl injection) is a commode. the 305 TPI motor came between 215 and 230 hp from the factory depending on year and exhaust options. the 350 TPI came with 225-245 depending on same. very easy to mod the 305 to match/exceed the 350's hp and tourque output.

    but the biggest advanatge to the 305TPI?? you can get a 5 speed mated to it from the factory. never happen with the 350 (automatic only). nuff said :big grin:

    find a cheap 305 car with a 5 speed then build a motor.

    Find the 305 TPI car, and build up a good 350 for a swap, since you already have the TPI unit, you only need to have the ECM chipped to the new motors specs. however don't get the 5 speed, it won't survive under the torque of a well built 350. The T5 from those cars are notoriously weak, so unless you're looking to rebuild it stronger, or replace it with a T56, it's not worth it, and you would be better off staying with the automatic trans.

    Actually some of the 305TPI cars were only rated at 190horse. Here's the thing, if you go 305 I'd go with the 5 speed, the 5 speeds had a hotter cam due to emissions. Also be careful when looking at auto cars. Thats the only way the 350's came but the auto 305's look dang near Identical, you can check the vin and also check the dash. The 350 cars had a 5500 rpm redline where the 305 auto cars had a 5000rpm redline. 305TPI is a good motor especially in 5 speed form. In good tune you can run 14.70s or 14.80s all day long if you can drive. The 350 cars in good tune will click off some 14.50's or so. I have seen one stock 3rd gen run a 14.20s, the car was in perfect tune was one of the strongest stock tpi cars I'd ever been in. Since then the guy has done a complete exhaust, and an SLP CAI and run some 13.80s. The auto 305's were rated at 215hp in 1985, then down to 190 in 86 and 87 due to emissions. Then up to 195 in 88 and it went up a bit almost every year till 90 or 91 where the peak numbers on the 1LE cars was 230hp...most had 225 hp. In 90-92 the 350 was rated at 245hp and 345lb ft of torque. I'd get an IROC or a 91/91 Z. Those are the best looking fbodies ever in my opinion.
