The 70-200mm f/2.8 is awesome but is for sale because it's being replaced :noes:

    The 300mm f/2.8 is awesome

The 100-300mm f/4 is probably awesome too and a handy lens to keep on the second body or as a substitute for the 300mm f/2.8 when the light is good.

28-300mm Tamron here.. I could be happier with it, but it's a good all around lens for running around outside... :hs:

Holy king of third party. How come you have three extenders. :noes: I'm thinking about getting the 80-400mm OS instead of the 100-300 f/4 if I can pick it up for around 7-800. :hsugh: I can't find a 100-300 used, so I'll have to buy that new, but I think I can get a 80-400 used. :noes: So many decisions. :embd:

That's a lot of range. :noes: I'm thinking about picking up one of the 18-200's (sigma or tamron) or maybe I'll switch to Minolta and get the Minolta one :noes: as a walk around. :embd:

I doubt the 80-400 is a snappy lens :dunno:

    I got a set of 1.4x and 2.0x included with my 300mm f/2.8 :noes:

Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm wondering because I have a 1.5x (kenko :hsugh: ) on my 70-210 right now, so the telephoto end is like 300mm. It's still way short, I'd love to get to 400mm when shooting soccer. It's not for me, I'm getting paid hourly, so I could care less about the quality. I've heard some good stuff and some bad stuff about the 80-400, but it gives me a helluva lot better range than the 100-300, although I'm sure it isn't as sharp either.

If I could afford it, I'd get a 120-300 f/2.8 and an extender. :embd: If I can find a 100-300 used, I'll snatch it up a like a Bengal Tiger finding it's prey :o but if not I think I'm going to get the 80-400.. :noes:

Get a used 100-300mm f/4 with a teleconverter for when you need extra reach.

I don't believe the 80-400mm will be quick at focusing -- so you may end up with lots of throwaway pictures.

The 100-300mm f/4 is very light for its size, probably much more handholdable than the 120-300mm f/2.8 for extended periods.

I hope I can find a 100-300 used. 800 new is going to break the bank. I'm probably not going to keep this lens, I just want to "rent" it while soccer season is in session. If I can't find a 80-400 or a 100-300, I might just finish the season off with my 70-210 and then buy a 70-200L IS. :noes:

We'll see. What are you replacing the 70-200 with? a VR?

It isn't a hobby if you get paid. :o

I'm "renting" the 100-300 f/4 to get better shots and hopefully get a better rate. You can see why it's more economical for me to buy a used 80-400mm OS because I can get it used for 700-800 (vs. a new one for 1100). When I'm done, since I bought it for market value, I can sell it for market value and take no loss on it and at the same time have gains of better pictures because theoretically it should focus faster than my 70-210 w/ 1.5x.

On the other hand, I can purchase a 100-300mm new for 800 dollars, but resale value will take a hit and I will end up taking a loss of a couple hundred dollars depending on whether or not I like it or not. So in this case, "renting' the lens for several months wouldn't yield more profit, unless I can find a used one for under 700 dollars, in which case it would prove to be the lens better suited for my needs. :o

I don't have 700 yet. :noes: I just paid off two credit cards this month. :wiggle:

I think I'm going to get a new flash first or a light meter or even a 72x72" diffuser panel. I want those more than a long range lens.
