I had an Opteka battery grip that worked just fine with my old Rebel body.

depends on what you're looking at buying... lenses, lighting, whatever...

Going with Sigma or Tamron on lenses can give you a massive Bang for the Buck value, and many will swear by the Tamron 17-50/2.8, but in many cases you really do have to pay to play. There's nothing wrong with going 3rd party, but make sure you do your research first. You may be looking at a third party manufacturer for a particular lens that simply doesn't hold a candle to it's Noink/Canon counterpart, and you're just throwing your money away by going cheap.

Any lenses in particular you were thinking about? OTAP can give you a rundown on value, and whether or not going cheap is worth the $/quality ratio.

Gonna have to wait for the rest of the OTAP crew to check out the thread. my experience with the lenses stops at a couple of kit lenses (crap) and my tammy 17-50  so i've got no experience with those ranges, or their canon counterparts. You can usually find reviews and comparisons on adorama, POTN, and the like. might be worth your time to check them out.

Tokina 12-24, 11-16, and 50-135 are pretty damn nice.

    .

I don't own it, but isn't the Sigma 50mm 1.4 pretty badass too?

IIRC Turbodude rocked many sigma lenses when he was a canon shooter. It was either 30 or the 50mm that him and many others said, was better than the canon counterpart

I havent used it, but lots of people on the canon forums say its better than the canon, however it is more expensive

I thought it was the 50. It looks massive. I want it just because of the size...

Oh, and the Tammy 90mm 2.8 needs to be added to this list.

i trust cosina (better than canon in most cases), Zeiss, some sigmas (no zooms thier 105mm is good and some other primes) tamron has some decent primes.

probably the best value in that range that you can get. you can get a canon/nikon counterpart that might provide better quality, but at a cost that's all but prohibitive. the Tammy is a wonderful lens, and a price that's mindblowingly affordable. the biggest downside is that it's mostly of plastic construction, so don't treat it rough.

tamron 17-50 is an amazing lens. i love it and i cant justify spending 1k$ on the canon.

Promaster rebrands all of these lenses and sells them with a lifetime warranty for dirt cheap.

I can get the 17-50 from the store I work at for $200! If you see any of these at your local brick and mortar store that carries Promaster there's a good chance you'll be able to talk them down from sticker price as well!

exactly. the canon lens is better than the tammy, but not sufficiently so to make it worth more than double the price of the tamron.

if u go third party just shoot the living shit out of it and test for sharpness

tamron 17-50 (assuming no focus issues) is your best bet

extremely sharp wide open, very versatile for what you're doing (street photog).

i think it runs for around 325used (better to make up a used/sharp copy than a new and unknown)

check out potn they pop up a lot
