So I've got a ThinkPad R61, and I've got an Ultra Bay to add an additional hard drive. When I put the hard drive in, it installs the drivers, and it shows up in the System Information, and in the Device Manager, but it doesn't show up in My Computer. How can I go about formatting the hard drive? Please help!

    This can't be good:

"The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

But the drive is fine. Are there any other reasons as to why this would happen?

Another weird thing that's happening: when I restart my computer, it prompts me for a password to go on further. It's got a picture of a disk with the number 2 next to it. I don't know any password for it. If I eject the ultra bay and start, it's fine. Any ideas for clearing that?

Was this a new drive you put in or a used one?
