    Nikon D90 + 35mm 1.8G + 2x SB-600

Anyone have this set up? Read some good reviews on the 35mm..

I have a 40D with 10-22 and 17-55, 50 1.4, 85 1.8. Already sold my other Canon strobes. I shoot wide and want a lighter set up and CLS for casual shooting.

If by lighter setup you mean downgrading, then by all means go for it.

i'd say do it, 35 f/1.8 is stellar, but are you sure thats the only lens you'll need?

    i have the d90 and 35 1.8

    i think the 35 1.8 is outstanding for a $200 lens. much better than the 50 1.8

    .

I don't own a 35 1.8, but I do own a thrifty-fifty, and from all the pics you guys post with the 35 @ 1.8, 2.0, I can see how much sharper it is like night and day. My fifty starts lookin ok around f2.8, but it's not sharp sharp until f4. :wtc: Unless I got a soft copy. (It's not front/back focusing, first thing I did was print out the charts and test it.)

Shot these before I got the 35 1.8. I think I used the 50 maybe once since then.

I made the switch and am pretty happy, though I am selling a lot of my gear in the next few weeks.

I love my 50 1.8 I think it's pretty sharp its just at 1.8 the DOF is so shallow that it's hard to get a sharp image without getting the focus just right.

Nah, I understand DOF, I almost always work with razor thin DOFs. I tested it for front/back, and I never shoot anything that moves. I borrowed a friend's Nikkor 50mm f1.4 and using it @ 1.8 was like night and day, I guess I just got a soft copy.

my main lens is the 10-22 for club and landscape photography. i still plan to keep this, and if nikon works out, i could pick up the 12-24. :hs:

the only other lens i would get is a 50/85/105 macro

Sounds like you already have a good camera and glass. I don't think there is much to gain by going with a D90 over that setup.

Yeah even as a nikon shooter, I don't see the benefit of doing this switch. The collection of glass you have for Canon is much better than re-starting with a 35.

the D90 + 35 is an epic combination.

I saw first hand L33t's copy in europe, it is epic.

    The 50 1.8 is trash

    Serious trash.

It doesnt focus accurately (dispite lots of tuning on my D700) mainly because it is gear vs internal motor... not nearly as precise. Also at 1.8 you can't afford to have the focus off, and at 1.8 it is soft.

You end up having to take it to 2.8 to get it sharp... and guess what if I wanted [email protected] I would use my 24-70... oh wait that is what I do all the itme.

But yeah the 35mm is fucking money.

My only gripe so far with the 35mm is that it hunts a lot when focusing in low light situations. Other than that I agree, it's a pretty hot lens.
