With the Sportronic transmission, cause where I'm at I get stuck in traffic on a regular basis and don't want to kill my left leg. What are the positives/negatives? Anyone here have one and some opinions on it? How is the Spyder version? I like the idea of a convertible, but I think I'd be happier overall with a hardtop and sunroof. Plus the lack of a rollbar kinda makes me nervous cause I know that at some point I'll have a kid in crammed in the backseat. I'm also looking at the package with the 650 watt soundsystem. No point in driving a quick car if you can't have a nice soundtrack for the road.

A co-worker of mine got an auto v6 convertible last summer. The thing has spent a bit of time in the shop. I'll ask him why when he comes back from vacation.

Here's the only negative you need to know:

    Its a Mitsubishi.

The Eclipses went to shit after the DSM's.

DSM=Diamond Star Motors, a joint effort between Mitsu and Chrysler that produced cars such as the 1st/2nd Gen Eclipse, Talon, and Laser; 3000GT and Stealth, along with several other cars co-produced by the two companies.

No it was good. He's just pointing out that the newer Eclipse is not a DSM, because someone posted it was.

Oh ok. I looked it up and was confused cause years didn't match up. So DSM Eclipse=Good, post-DSM Eclipse=Bad?

In terms of engines(4g63t) and weight, yes. Reliability, no. :)

The only real bad thing about 1G DSM's was the transmissions...2G DSM's w/ 7bolt 4G63's had issues w/ crankwalk and transmissions. And realistically, most people who have tranny problems have them because they are trying to make drag cars out of them. I know next to nothing about 3rd/4th gen eclipses as they have almost no following in the aftermarket.

Don't pay attention to the DSM talk. They are for 1990-1999 Eclipses...

Anyways, the new Eclipses are definately a love or hate opinion. They seem to have a good overall package... good HP and torque so city driving should be fun, sport suspension and a good audio package. I'd stick with a coupe though.

Plus I am sure they are giving away the 07's now.

It doesnt seem like the aftermarket parts market is important as you are guying automatic, amirite?
