Well a good start would be tell us a little about yourself.

Age, current job, education, and also what are you looking to gain from service, and what job would you like to do?

im 20, working at walmart as inventory (backroom, unloading truck, making sure inventory gets pulled and sent to the floor)

highschool diploma, 2 semesters of college.

looking to gain discipline mainly. also figured if i do join i might as well get a degree in something useful..not sure what yet.

i have thought about it, and would like anything ranging from mechanic work, helicopter crew, armorer. im good with the mechanical side of things computers, guns, very hands on and learn quickly.

go in with an 11x contract (Army)
if its discipline that you are seeking, then there is nothing better than Army or Marine Infantry for that.

Try out for the Ranger Battalion, train, deploy, come home, party your ass off, retrain, deploy, come back home. manage your finances..make career choices

by this point you should be around year 2 of service. you can decide if infantry life is the life for you or even if the Army is for you on the long term.

If its not, you can make preparations for your exit and use your GI Bill at whatever college you can get accepted. You will enter the university with a much more determined and mature outlook on life. plus you will be getting paid son

I had been considering joining for a couple of years. I had a lot of family in the Marines and Army, but I was always leaning towards the Air Force and Navy. When I got down into breaking it down to figure out what I wanted out of the military, and how I wanted to spend the next 5 years I came to the conclusion that the Navy was best for me. More my type of atmosphere I think as far as the military goes, and I love the adventure of sailing around the world. Very traditional IMO, something that military's have been doing forever.

My rating is a Hospital Corpsman. I wanted to get into the medical side, and possibly going green. I am open for Master at Arms or Aerographers mate though.

yep, once you skirt the limits of what you can do and find out just how much shit you can handle, stuff like school will be a breeze. I joined the infantry with a serious lack of motivation, now, looking back at how lazy I was back in college makes me lol.

I am in the same boat pretty much as you. I am 21 and have 2 semesters of college. (used to work at walmart) I've decided to join the Army but I do not know what mos to pick. I want to to infantry or combat engineer but thats the only thing my family says they refuse to work with. (and I want the help of my older brother in joining. he just got out of the marines) I dont know, I may just say screw them and do it anyways.

if you really wanna be told what to do, go marines corps, they'll tell you what to do, how to do it, and how bad you're doing it.

They refuse to work with those jobs? Wtf are they going to do, honestly? Fucking stop talking to you all together? lol, just do what you want, you'll be happier. Mommy and daddy aint going to be around forever bud. If you're leaning towards Infantry or Combat Engineer, you should also look into 13 Foxtrot, which is a Forward Observer or FISTer. Its pretty cool job, I love it! :bigthumb:

If you're looking to work on aircraft, go find a 2A job in the Air Force. Walk into the recruiters office, tell him you want to work on airplanes, and he'll make sure you get the rest of the way. The LOVE putting people in maintenance. Trust me.

Just don't think it is going to make you super disciplined. You'll be better off than before you came in, but mechanics are a gritty bunch.

When you family enlists you can tell them to pick they job they want. But as I am sure you know, this is YOUR choice....not anyone else.
