whats everyones opinion of them?
make sure its a 1.8t
if you get the 2.0L you'll be hating life. but loving your gas milage.
I have an R32 its bad ass. Get the 1.8T and get a GIAC or APR chip, exhaust and intake. Life will be good. check out www.vwvortex.com if you already haven't. with the chip you'll move from 150hp/150 ft-lb to around 210/245. Trust me you will be very happy i had a 1.8T a4 before my R32.
I have a 2002 GTI 1.8T.
Love it. It's really spirited in curves, like driving on rails. Slick as hell transmission, like all VAG products. A joy to drive. All that and 28 MPG.
Only major problems that tend to creep up in MKIV's (haven't had any of them happen to me, but they're semi-notorious): coilpacks, MAF, the mechanical piece of the window regulator that holds your window up. All covered by warranty, provided the car still has one. All pretty cheap if it dosen't.
I would reccomend the 1.8T or even the VR6, but it all depends on how far you really plan on going with it. SHRICK[sp] makes some wicked products if you want to shell over the money, but APR will also satsify you as well. If you are up for some cutting and welding, there are a few VR6T's running around my neck of the woods. UBER FAST and decently reliable too.
I'm thinking about selling my 2k GTI. Its a VR6. Great, kinda fast, Fun car, i just want someting older as a project car. Hit me up if youre intrested. [email protected] or aim: gtivr6pack
I have the 2.0.....kinda slow, but awesome gas mileage.
Get the 1.8t, and put some mods on it, youll be happy.
love my 04 GLI 24V 6-spd
