So I'm thinking of buying new wheels for my volkswagen. One set of wheels that comes to mind are bbs CH's. I'm thinking of getting the 18's as 19's might be too harsh for daily driving. But that 1" difference might make or break the look.

I'm also keeping my mind open for other types of wheels (like rial daytona race's). I want the final total to be less than 3k all said and done w/ tires.

BTW here is my car for reference

Here are the wheels I'm thinking of

    CH's
    [IMG]

    Enkei SC05's

Rial Race Daytonas (similar to my current wheels but much, much better)

these DPE's (but they're used and I'm looking to buy new)

and lastly, schmidt race 2000's (so unlikely as they are extremely rare and money)

But, anyways, I'm leaning towards the bbs's. I like the fact that they make many oem wheels so you know the quality is there. Plus the stance you're gonna get running these wheels.

    some more CH pics

Anyways, let me know what you guys think and if there are any other recommendations that would be under 3grand

    thanks for checking this out

I like the BBS CH's. The Enkei's don't look like they have enough mass to them to hold up the car, regardless of whether they actually do, and the gold DPE's make me want to key your car.

Looking at those pics, the M3 seems to agree that the CH's are the best choice.

Putting nice wheels on a sedan is played, too. Shit, ALL aftermarket wheels are played. He should go with the ones that look good on the car, not the ones that look good on the strip.

how much time do you want to spend cleaning wheels?

The factory multi-spoke BBSs on my STi are such a bitch to keep clean. The more spokes you have, the more time it'll take to clean the motherfuckers. All those little corners where the spoke meets the rim of the wheel gather break dust like its their job.

So replace the stock brake pads. OEMs almost always go for a softer, higher-dust compound to reduce brake noise, because apparently that's a tradeoff most people are willing to make.

I use EBC RedStuff pads on my car, and I have silver painted alloys. After going all winter without a single wash, the front wheels look slightly yellowish compared to the back wheels. Can't do that with stock pads.

hmm, i'm not for sure on this but i don't think the pads in the Brembos on the STi are all that soft. I only say that because they are noisy as all get out and your post implies soft pads are quiet.

FWIW, I'm not real knowledgeable on break pads. :hsd:

I already know how much of a bitch mesh wheels are to clean. My supermeshes are a total PITA but if I clean them once every week or two, its easy cleaning.

    btw, its spelt "brake" ;)

finally deus, you and I agree on something.

You'll look like more of an asshole, but I really enjoy bronze or gold rims on a green car. I'm not a fan of those enkeis, and while the CHs are nice, I prefer other BBSs to those. I prefer the ones you already have, quite honestly.

On another note, for years I've been tryin to understand why Golf owners will do this "euro" style where the wheels are staggered and you've got huge rear tires. Yeah, I wish it was RWD too, but I don't get why you'd want even more understeer. I know it's for looks, not performance, but I just wonder why it's only VW Golf (and sometimes jetta) owners that do this. Throwback to the beetles of yesteryear?

Depends on the formulation. If they're kevlar pads, they'll be loud as shit when they're wet no matter what.

The EBC pads I recommended are ceramic, so they dissipate heat well, and because the metal is already oxidized (that's all ceramics are), there's no chemical reaction when the pad material gets ground off. I don't know how the oxidization affects adhering to the surface of the wheel, but somehow metal pads always leave nasty black shit all over the place and ceramics usually don't.

ya, these are noisy all the time, not just when wet. Subaru wasn't too concerned with NVH ratings when they designed the STi.

What i've gathered from subaru forums is that the brembo pads throw off a lot of dust so i'll probably have to find another brand. I'll have to see what a popular replacement is when the time comes.

It's all about looks. Performance is sacraficed.
I know I have a 19'' staggered set for the shows, and a set of 17'' for normal driving and mountain runs.

    BTW, MK4 GTI .8t

thanks for the link. interesting, funny write-up. I understand it's a style, and whatnot, akin to the Japanese VIP style (albeit on full sized sedan platform).

Essentially it's German rice. Spaetzle perhaps?

I've seen that look for years and years, I just wondered why they never got any shit over it, meanwhile I got mulletheads leaning out of their trucks to yell at me because of the STOCK spoiler that mitsubishi grafted onto my car.

Then again, wide ass rims are way cooler than any bodywork :o
