Anyone have any plans for a tower design using a 4" mid/woof, tweet, and a enclosed (hidden) 8" sub, or something similar?

I may design my own anyway, but I want some general ideas to start with.

any advice on how to get a shiny black finish on MDF?

I was thinking spray with clear, sand, paint, clear.

Maybe I will just veneer these too, easier to get a nice looking finish :p

Make sure it's internally braced properly, I've seen a LOT of nice looking speakers that sound like complete crap because they concentrated on making it look nice, instead of worrying about the acoustic advantages of bracing. The dude i was talking to was wondering why vandersteens and totems weighed so much omre than his. Ugh, hey, if you want, try single driver speaker designs, the new Visaton B200's are suppose to be the new hotness. GOod luck mang

    thanks, for the link

don't worry i know how to build nice enclosures. i've even written a fairly intensive program that calculates volumes and theoretical response curves.

Have you ever thought about a single driver crossoverless design? I've heard the Visaton B200 8" drivers in a simple looking case, it blew the socks off of me. Plus, the Visatons are cheap enough to mess around with. Anyway, let us know how it all goes. Good luck mang

Getting a shiny black vinish takes a lot of work and usually won't come out looking like something you could buy off the shelf. I think Veneer would be the way to go or finishing it in a flat black with a textured look.

Take a peak at the Adire Audio 6.8 Extremists, its a brand new 6" driver that performs very well. dyicable.com has some kits that include everything but the cabinets for the Adire.

hmmm, textured flat black might not be too bad, if i cleared over that it would be more of a matte black but easier to clean.

i'll look into those drivers you mentioned
