    go 6.5 grendel instead

I had no interest until I started selling CP 6.8 mags, then it planted an evil dirty seed of lust to build something new.

  4. It depends on what the purpose of the gun is. The 6.5 Grendel is best suited to long distance shooting.

that will come at a later date,as the only commercial ammo for this round is A.A and wolf?
its going to be either a 6.8 or .308*ar10ish*.i should just go with .308*as i have a shit ton of ammo* and put the 6.8 on the back burner
i`ll have it figured out by monday*goin to a funshow this weekend*
and just for shits n giggles..heres apic of my latest build, which is damm near being complete*just waiting on parts, then glass*

^ That is pretty much how I want my next AR build to be. Except in 6.8 or .308.

I'd take a 6.5 over a 6.8 any day, if only for the range of loads for it.

  9. Me too. I was just meaning that the 6.5 is particularly well suited to long distance shooting. I didn't mean to imply that I'd prefer the 6.8 for other shooting.

I want a 6.8SPC 16" middy upper after I buy a 5.56 16" middy upper. Having much better terminal ballistics and you can shoot deer with it.

    oh :o

    :h5:

I wish I had a 6.5 rig and money to feed it :wtc:

  12. After reading some ballistics data on the 6.5 and the 6.8, I can't think of a reason that I'd ever take the 6.8 over the 6.5. Of course, you could argue that the 6.8 is less prone to jamming than the 6.5 because of the case design, but since the odds of any of us ever using either round in combat are about .0001% I don't care about that.

6.8 shines in barrels 16" and under.

  14. Realistically... is is really significantly better than 5.56? I mean, you'll have no trouble at anything less than 300 yards with a 5.56 anyways (and you can argue that the 5.56 is actually MORE accurate at anything up to 300 yards), so why would you buy a more expensive setup, that fires much less common and more expensive ammunition?

Terminal performance, yes. Would I use it for plinking? No. Would I use it for HD/SD/hunting? Yes. 20 rounds of SD ammo for .223/5.56 is the same price as the same type of rounds for 6.8SPC.

that is the biggest reason I would rather have a 6.5 as well. Anything a 6.8 can do, a 6.5 can do, and more.

Up to ~300 meters, I don't see how 6.5 is better. How well does the 6.5 shoot out of a 12.5" barrel?
Comparison photo just to show differences between cartridges.

  18. What are you going to shoot where you are concerned with terminal performance after penetrating multiple objects? The only real uses for short barrels are combat situations vs. people. Anything up to 300 yards, the 5.56 is plenty good against people.

But the 6.8 does it better. That's the whole point. It was designed to fit in the AR15 platform without many changes.

Being dead after the first shot. Not just talking about humans.

6.8 vs .6.5 debate has been out for a long time. Both are still advancing so choose what you will.

Generally the goal of shooting a person is to cause them to stop as quickly as possible. Nothing is an instant death ray despite what movies and tv lead people to believe. Sometimes guys wind up walking around and shooting back for 30 seconds with a 12 ga hole through the chest, they're just not polite enough to know they should stop. 6.8spc does significantly more damage than 5.56 and increases the chances of the bad guy stopping promptly.
