I wouldn't want a heavy barreled rifle for hunting, the balance will suck and it will be slow to point.
I don't really see how the FLP offers any advantage over your 110 other than a shorter action.

and McMillan makes Savage stocks, as do a few cheaper companies like B&C

    the "L" makes a big difference :o

is it really that much heavier? shouldn't the heavy barrel aid in off hand accuracy?

I have a 10FCP... 26" heavy barrel on an aluminum bedded HS-Precision stock with a DBM. It is an awesome bench gun but extremely muzzle heavy and just plain heavy overall. I'd say 13lb+ by the time you figure scope, bipod & ammo.

    I didn't realize your 110 isn't lefty :o

Savage's site says it's 8.5 bare, which is heavy for a regular deer rifle. Weight can be a good thing, but you don't really want something that's heavy for shooting offhand, it tires you out faster and plus the fact that all of the weight is really in the front of the rifle means it's not going to balance for shit, especially considering Savage's cheap ass plastic stocks which seem to have no weight in the butt.

I guess really the only thing you can do is try it out at a store and see how it feels, but it's not anything I'd consider for a regular deer rifle, maybe if all I did was shoot prone or from a stand, but for walking and offhand shooting I'd go with something in a sporter weight, like an 11FL http://www.savagearms.com/11fl.htm

    11X denotes long action IIRC.

I don't think Savage has an equivalent to the 710. Their cheap line is the Stevens, and it's still just a Savage with a cheaper finish, stock, and no accutrigger, which are still waaaaay better than a 710

    and 11 = short action, 111 = Long

I've wanted a Savage for a while now. It'll probably be my next rifle. I'm thinking a 110FP. I just want one to kill paper from a bench though. I wouldnt' want the heavy barrel for hunting.
