I've never been to the gym before however I am highly thinking about starting a membership. Obviously I am going to feel intimidated however I have a friend that goes every that will be helping me out. He told me I will be following his routine but with less weights.

My question is, what should I expect? What type of attaire should I wear and should I bring anything with me?

Any and all info to make thigns smoother would be great

its not a fashion show. go the gym, do work & get shit done, leave, rinse repeat.

carry somthing to drink, a log book if you want to keep track of your workouts, & condoms,.

sometimes I dont wear underpants so I can see my pork and beans flop in the mirror when I squat.

nobody is even looking at you. If people see you consistently for 3 weeks and you're working hard, you're just another dude at the gym.

There are a couple of reason for me wanting to sign up.

    1. Im pretty skinny and want to build a little mass. I'm not looking to big huge, but put on some muscle and look a bit lean
    2. To have a more active/healthy lifestyle and build a a bit of confidence.
    3. To get out and try something new.

My buddy told me theres usually a free trial membership, so i figured why not and try it out.

    1. nobody cares what you wear at the gym
    2. tell your friend to come over and pick you up, see what he wears, dress similarly :dunno:

I wear old chef pants, white t-shirt and an old hoodie, every day, everywhere including the dry sauna.

I don't give a flippin fuck what someone says about too many clothes. I'm fat and I'm sweating it out and I can outlast anyone in the dry sauna with my hoodie on.

Bring an iPod or similar, gym music blows and makes me wanna slit my wrists.

    Proper Gym Etiquette.

    1) Re-Rack your weights after your sets/reps are done.
    2) Watch where you walk. You don't want to walk into someone doing DB presses while you are trying to do curls and you don't want to have a 120lb db dropped on your foot. In either occasion you will get your ass whooped with a 10 pound weight.
    3) Don't stare at people.
    4) Learn proper form and set your ego aside and actually do weight you can manage. When you bench 225 for a 1/2 rep and your buddy curls the weight up everyone worth talking to in the gym for advise secretly hates you or laughs at you.
    5) Pertaining to 4. When solo don't ask someone to spot you for a weight you clearly can't do. When you are trying to shoulder press 80lb dbs and you can only get 40 three times, don't. Again everyone hates you.
    6) Don't wear street clothes, you look like an idiot.
    7) Come to the gym to work not socialize. Sure you can talk to your buddy, laugh and have a good time while working out but don't be a homo frat boy and talk to a circle of 6 dudes surrounding the ez-bar rack doing a set every 10 minutes.
    8) Flexing in the mirror for any more than 5 seconds or excessively makes you look like a homo. Even if your the big dude in the gym it looks like you are trying to hard.

    9) Don't change the weight of a machine/barbell unless you're sure the person who used it before you is done with it. This is a good way to make people pissed if you take off the weight from the barbell when they're in between sets. And if you're not sure if they're done, ask.
    10) If you sweat, clean it up. The gym will probably provide sanitize solution and paper towels/rags.

    11. if you use chalk, don't make a huge mess by clapping your hands and dancing in the cloud like you're at some smoke machine rave in your mom's basement.
