I want to join the Military, but im not exactly sure yet. I dont want to be standard infantry. If possible, i would love to fly airplanes off of aircraft carriers. I believe that still qualifys as Navy. My moms boyfriend's dad was a Navy captain in Vietnam, and he pretty much inspired me to join the forces.

Naval aviation is the place to be. (I might be a little biased) :bigthumb:
How old are you? What kind of education do you have?

    17. Graduating high school next year. What do you do in Naval Aviation? I would be interested in talking to you sometime.

Navy and Marines both operate from carriers.

In my opinion, Navy/Marine fighter pilots are the very best pilots we have. NO other branch routinely takes off and lands from a moving runway. NO other branch places as much burden and stress upon their pilots as the Navy/Marines do.

If you are a Navy or Marine fighter pilot, you are the best.

(no - I've never been in the Navy or Marines)

I'm an electrician on the F/A-18E Super Hornet, (see my av) the Navy's newest toy. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :bigthumb:

Ranger, you say that the navy pilots are the best we have. Does it take multiple steps to get the govt. to trust you landing their 300 million dollar planes on moving runways. Do you have to first start out start out as say and AF pilot, and then move your way to a Navy pilot?

You don't go through any AF training, it's all Navy. The jets aren't worth QUITE $300 million either, I'm sure the chair force has a few worth that though :big grin: And yes, you definitely have to prove yourself before the Navy lets you land on a carrier :bigthumb:

You don't want to work on aircraft for the Marine Corps. We give them our old Hornets (think "we don't want to deal with this thing anymore") and don't get me started on the Harrier.

The Air Force isn't the minor leagues for Naval Aviators :hsugh:. They're an entirely different branch with an entirely different mission, objective, and role.
