I haven't posted here in a while, mostly because I have felt like my photos have sucked lately (for OTAP standards), I feel like I lack a good focal point in most my landscapes.

I still want to upgrade to a 5d eventually, and need some good glass. I cant spend much more than $700 on a lens (I have $800-850 to spend, but want a CPL badly)

However, I did get one photo I liked when I went to Red Rocks the other day.

how does the 17-40 compare to the 16-35? most the time I shoot at f/5.6 to f/11

So you are shooting with a crop body? The 17-40 is nice, but it was really made for a FF camera. It might not be wide enough on a crop body. I'd pick up a used UWA like the tokina 11-16, canon 10-22, etc. If you buy used, you should be able to resell later when you get a 5d for about the same price you paid.

Edit: looks like you already have a UWA. I checked the exif and that picture was shot at 10mm. Disregard everything I said :o

hmm, maybe I will sell my xti, and all my other glass (except my 100-400)

    and buy a 17-40, 24-105 and a 5d. (all used)

    so my lineup would be

    5d
    17-40 f/4
    24-105 IS f/4
    100-400 IS f/4.5-5.6

only issue would be not having any fast glass, (i guess IS does help, but not entirely)

That would be an awesome zoom lineup. You could pick up a fast prime like the sigma 30, the canon 50 1.4, or the canon 85 1.8 down the road for low light :dunno:
