Any comments/suggestions? I've heard it's the best mod to do (without going big like H/C/I, supercharger, motor swap). I swear this car is geared so fucking high it's insane. I can drive around at 45-50mph and still be in 3rd gear cruising and it's still not even turning more than 2200rpm or so -- just estimating from memory. It's nice because I can drive around town all day and rarely shift gears:mamoru: but it sucks because acceleration is killed. I read that most 94 GT's came with either 2.73 :eek3: or 3.08 gearing and as high as this car is geared I am guessing it's 2.73.

Anyways looks like for about $200 in parts and $200 in labor (local speed shop I trust) I can go to 3.73's or 4.10's. It's my daily drive and 90% of my driving is local, rarely Interstate, and mostly under 55mph because I live in a small town and our little highways have 45-55mph limits anyways so I'm not really concerned about gas mileage as long as it doesn't kill like 5mpg.

Had nitrous before on my 3000GT... fucking lame. Unless I was drag racing all the time I won't ever fuck with it again.

as long as you drive slow on the freeway a 4.10 should be fine

I wouldn't go all the way to 4.10's. Do you even take the car to the strip?

Whatever you do, don't ask the speed shop you trust for advice!

That's what I'm thinking. I live in the boonies so to even get on an interstate I have to drive 30 minutes  But maybe once ever few months I will drive 3-4 hours to visit family or pickup parts for work or something. Not often but it DOES happen so I wouldn't want to be going 70mph and turning 3500rpm or anything. I don't think 4.10's would be that extreme but I've never had cars with gearing that high.

    I would go 3.73's then.

He said 3.73's or 4.10's and that's all he'd say. They're used to building dragsters and shit so I guess to him 3.73's or 4.10's either one are about the same.

You can probably do 4.10's if it's a 6 speed, but I would just do 3.73.

I haven't taken it to the strip and don't see it as being likely. Possible, yes, but I'm 28 now so I'm not running around town doing burnouts and drag racing kids all day... I'm just driving it to work and for fun and just want a more enjoyable driving experience without dumping big money into the car.

I was looking at a few other mods but it was shit like shorty headers and a short shifter. I think this would be the best bang for the buck from what I've read. And my major complaint with the car is how high it's geared.

I won't pretend to know a lot about the subject but 4.10's seems high especially if you'll be doing long road trips once in a while. Plus it might be a factor if you ever decide to sell the car. I imagine 3.73's would give you enough power to satisfy you around town.

    I'd do 3.55's or 3.73's

The 03 Cobra I had came stock with 3.55's and I enjoyed the gear- Not where you'd be shifting a lot, but just enough to be fun.

4.10s depending upon how tall the tire is. :dunno:

Damn I'm glad you said that because I hadn't thought about that part. This is a nice looking GT, not a ragged out street racer so if/when I sold it then it's going to be a nice daily driver, not some POS with a primer Cobra R hood and bald tires.

4.10s for track, 3.73 for daily fuck about.

4.10s are too high for a lot of highway driving.

Do yourself a favor and build bottom end and put a 2.1L KB on it. You'll spend a couple grand but you will be satisfied with power.

I'm scared if I do 3.55's it won't be enough of a jump and I'll feel like I wasted my time/money. BUT I've never even rode in a Mustang with 3.55's so I don't even know what it's like.

A buddy of mine had a 95 GT and went to 3.73's and I remember he loved it but I've been trying to get ahold of him and see what he thought about the 3.73's and if they were just right/too high/too low.

    :wiggle:

I know modded cars scare people but at least with 3.73's you should be able to explain pretty easily why you changed out the gears. Someone might want the car but wouldn't buy it because 4.10's would drink their gas for a commute.
