A&P Thinking about a new approach to photography...

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by coughlin's law, Nov 18, 2008.

  1. I've thought about selling the Sigma 10-20, and my 50mm f/1.8 for a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and maybe 2 Sunpak 383's... and going for the strobist...

I realize that photography isn't about how many megapixels your camera has, or how many lenses you have -- but more about lighting...

I'd keep the lenses you already have, you'll need those.
    Just start concentrating on lighting.

Get two stands, two flashes and some triggers. You won't need anything else for much of what you want to do, and certainly ~100% of your "learning" phase.

What you don't need is the latest and greatest camera body.
Unless you just need a new body period.

I'm a big fan of the 383 Super. The only thing the 285HV has that the Sunpak does not is the zoom head, and if you're shooting through umbrellas it's not really an issue. Plus it swivels, which is great if you ever stick it on your camera.

    Too bad Sunpak discontinued it.

Depends on what trim level you want.

Tomash trim level is pretty cheap, POTN is free, not sure about the others, I don't aspire to be anything great.

I'm with you. Ever since I got my SB-600, my snapshots look better. I can't wait to get some wireless triggers.
