Many of you know my back story, im down from 450+ to 327, yea vegas packed on a few more pounds than last time I posted. Ive been looking at my overall eatting and noticed im eatting way to many shitty carbs, as in lots of special k snack bars and granola bars. In the past, I have tried "atkins" type diets and lost alot of weight but always ended up gaining it back and more. Im thinking about taking a low carb approach but I want to do it in a healthy manner this time. I also think I have the will power to not go back to an extreme level of unhealthy eatting once I get off the low carb diet. This time around tho, I dont want to do the typical bullshit people think about when you mention atkins, I dont want to stuff down 10lbs of red meat and butter a day and call it a diet. My question is, is there anything inherently unhealthy about eatting a high protein low carb diet? Im prepared to get very restrictive as my current routine and diet has stagnated and began to make me feel in a rut. I was thinking something like this below. I understand something like this isnt a long term solution, but I was wondering if I took the initiative to follow something near this below for 2 months what the result would be. Also, once this period was up, what the repercussions of adding back greens and complex carbs would be if I maintained nearly the same calories level but from different sources. Short term goal 300, long term goal 250 ultimate goal 220 and maintaining. Fire away :x:

    breakfast
    4 eggs
    280 cal 25.2 protein

9 or 10 ounces of roasted turkey breast
    405 cal 78 protein

    snack
    3 ounces low sodium jerky
    135 cal 24 protein

    dinner
12-16 ounces baked boneless skinless chicken
    480 cal 96 protein

    3 ounces low sodium jerky
    135 cal 24 protein

    after lifting

No, don't worry about counting carbs from vegetables. Just stay away from corn, carrots, pea's etc.

at 300+ I wouldn't worry about carb cycling, low carb, etc and all that shit. Just eat a balance of lean meat, fresh veggies and carbs like rice, taters, sweet taters, etc and keep the cals down.

    This.

The low carb craze has gotten as bad as the low fat diets of the 90's. The idea of low carb Atkins style of diets was to get people off all the shit carb sources and it's a lot easier for the masses to have simple rules like 'don't eat carbs' vs. extensive lists like 'don't eat cup cakes, oreos, soda but oats, rice, taters [NOT DEEP FRIED], etc are ok...'

As you said yourself, you're eating too many shitty carbs.

Low carb diets are valuable tools for the obese. Obesity is usually concurrent with insulin resistance/type II diabetes, thus carbohydrate consumption is a major concern. Low carb diets (<50g) have been demonstrated to restore insulin sensitivity and in a lot of type II diabetes cases, abolish exogenous insulin dependency. There is also the benefit of healthier cholesterol levels. And don't forget satiety.

Also, I would try to stay away from carbs w/in 4 hrs of going to sleep. Just saying, its an easy rule and helped my a LOT when I cut 30 lbs a few years ago.

Is there any real evidence about this? I hear people say this all the time, and wonder if there are any studies that prove that eating before bed does in fact increase fat production.
