i turn on my computer, walk away, and when i come back its halfway through a disk check on my secondary hard drive.

    i see lines saying

"the folder \school is entirely unreadable. the folder entry is removed"
    and several more like this.

it seems to have deleted all of my documents and music files from the drive.

now when i go to click a folder - i can see the directories, but it tells me the drive needs to be formatted.

w t f happened here? drive was working fine 2 days ago.

virus def's have beeen completely up-to-date.

any help would be appreciated...i seemed to have lost a lot of important stuff from my life here.

you use windows, windows sucks, howere it would sound like your owned by a random unlucky error.

what type of hard drives are we talking about?

ziplock your drive, put in freezer for 1 hour(no longer) remove use see if you can get the files off

Buy the Program GetDataBack for NTFS.

i bought it last time my 60gb died, and this morning after 2 months my 120gb just died. Thank god i bought this software, works AMAZINGLY!

you could always try booting from knoppix, mounting the drive, then try.

thanks for the GetDataBack suggestion. it's $80 but i guess all data recovery software will be super-pricey....people only buy it when its a friggin emergency.

yeah but this is some of the best I have ever used. take a while, but hot damn im happy with it. shit im impressed.

    losing a 120gb (w/o a backup) sucks.

i ended up replacing it (under warranty) and buying another one for backup purposes only :big grin:
