I am going to take off my heatsink this weekend and reapply some Arctic Silver 5 because I don't think I applied it correctly the first time. How do you remove it? I heard most people say 90% Alcohol, others say Mineral Spirits.

Also is there a site or a picture anyone has to show me how much should be applied, BTW this is for an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ with a stock AMD HSF.

A little alcohol and scrape it off.

Ain't that hard man. You could scrape it off without the alky, but you feel like dripping chemicals on your computer parts.

if its the stock hsf, then it's a thermal pad on there, and just leave it. You'll probably fuck something up.

My temps could be better, idles at 39C, under light load around 41C, and under a heavy load (20 - 30 minutes) around 47C.

Should I get an aftermarket HSF?

What do you mean applied it incorrectly? If all you did was apply too much, scrape off the excess and put the cpu back on. No need to remove it all off and put it back on again.

Obviously you need as thin a layer as possible. I use an old credit card.

I don't think I put to much on in terms of amount, I think I didn't put enough in terms of surface area. I have seen pictures online with people only putting on a little square and I have seen other pictures of people covering the whole CPU with a thin layer.
