    All C-130s spew black smoke.

The altitude is usually called low-level flying.

Where do you live? I'm up in Pt Mugu with the air guard, and we regularly do lowlevel flights. We're just north of LA, but most of our lowlevels are to the north, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County. We always fly over Michael Jackson's neverland ranch.

next to moffett fields. not really an official AF base anymore. but they've been flying c130s regularly for the couple of days at noon. never quite sure why... it's not suppose to be active military.

i can't see the regs. it's billowing smoke from the wing tips. how does that work? thought it was turboprop.

I've been up to moffett with the air guard, and with the Marines. What color is the C-130? if its a solid gray color, then it's airforce. If its different shades of gray, light at the bottom, darker in the mid section, and darkest up top, then it's a Marine KC-130. And yes they are turboprops, but still create black smoke. even the new J models.

That's called fuel coming from the dump masts.

I didnt even think of that. I haven't been in a situation where we needed to dump fuel. I think it was water condensing at the wing tips of the Herk, just like all fighter jets. Can you tell if it was doing close to Mach1?

Ok, so now you're officially a retard.

Let me put it to you so your two brain cells might be able to wrap themselves around it.

Aircraft run on fuel, lots of it. A C-130 standard load for instance is 36,000 pounds of JP-8.

This huge fuel system has these things called fuel lines. You following so far asswipe??

These fuel lines run all along the wings, and some into the fuselage (the long cylindrical part, moron).

They supply fuel to the engines. You know, those things that look like giant ceiling fans on the C-130.

Now, if something bad happens, and the pilot (you know, the guy who drives the plane..) has to do an emergency landing, and he's waay heavy on fuel (meaning he has a LOT of it), he's going to turn on these things called dump pumps. What this does is trigger an electric pump in the fuel tank, and opens a valve called a dump, or X valve. And the fuel will run through all those fuel lines, right out the wingtips via the dump mast. He does this because, well, you really would rather have a plane crash with only 10,000 pounds of fuel onboard as opposed to 50,000. Kinda reduces the boom if shit really goes wrong.

Now, here's where it gets really confusing for simple minded folks such as yourself. Sometimes, these valves leak a little. Gee, imagine that, on a 40 year old airplane??!! You don't say....
When this happens, and the plane banks hard (oh, sorry, that means turn sharp), that leaky fuel will come out of the dump mast. Not to worry though, it evaporates before it hits the ground (lord I hope you know what evaporate means, because I don't feel like explaining it to you). So even though jet fuel could possibly cause you harm, it's really nothing to worry about. Call me nuts, but I think the guys who fix the planes, and the ones who fly the planes, know a little more about flight safety than your two sparring brain cells.

It's wings would fall off. It's max speed it only around 330MPH, not even close to Mach 1.

I guess you didn't see the sarcasm in that.

    APU > GTC

    F,R,T, J > E,H

And none of those will ever exhibit the durability that the E model has had.

Sorry, but it's true. J's and H's won't last 1/2 as long as some of our E's.

    I was being a smartass, saying Marine KC-130's> any AF C-130. :p

F models are the equivalent of E models.
    R Models = H models
    T models = H3
and J, well I prefer the Airforce Jmodel actually over the USMC version. The Corps went the cheap route(surprise) and opted out the electronic cargo handling system, and kept the old mechanical locks.
