EDIT: This is my first Mac Any must-knows/tips for "switchers"?
check the switch page on apple.com/switch
read threads at top of forum
I just switched (again) and it was the easiest thing I've ever done on a computer.
I just ordered mine, I finally caved... student discount + 1.83ghz macbook pro ftw... $1980 after tax and shipping
The student discount plus the 90 days same-as-cash on the Apple card is what got me
Yea, learn the shortcuts in the shortcut sticky. It's such a faster, easier experience.
Cmd (Apple key) - N: opens a new finder window
Shift-Cmd-N: creates new folder
Cmd-W: closes windows/tabs
Cmd-delete: deletes item
Shift-Cmd-delete: empty's trash
Cmd-Tab: cycle through open programs (if you have a lot you can mouse over to the one you want)
F9: Expose' all windows
F10: Expose' an applications windows
F11: Expose' all windows off-screen to view desktop
Cmd-Spacebar: Spotlight finder field
Cmd-return: open Spotlight's first choice
A great helper is setting Expose' to show all windows when you mouse over to the upper right corner of the screen. So if you wanna copy a file or whatever you can just show-all and hover over the window you want to bring it to the front.
I was just reading about how completely redesigned the new macbooks are, and how much better they are compared to the current G4 powerbooks. Still gonna wait untill there's no need for rosetta though...
The grand opening. A new, slimmer box with a strange design of a pod like cushioing system for the foam surround. It also is coming with an iPod like, thin, foam sleeve.
I want the a MacBook, but i think i'll wait
Hopefully get mine next pay day
Damn that laptop is sexy. I think i'm gonna replace my 600MHz G3 iBook with one in the next couple months
cant you just go to the apple store and buy one?
dammit now i've gotta go change my pants.
Okay, so I'm thinking about making the switch also.
I probably would have just bought the Mac Book today if they hadn't been out of stock. I talked with the guy for awhile... and at some point he said something about the Power Book possibly being better suited for music production. There was so much info, I don't recall exactly why. Because the specs on the Mac Book look like they would handle that kind of thing great.
Anyone know if and/or why the Power Book would be better suited for that type of thing? I think he said the Mac Book would be a bit slower when doing that sort of thing. But damn, I really am wanting the Mac Book. I'll be using for a lot of things, but I would like to know its good for the music stuff too.
it would only be slower before the universal binary versions of the music production software come out, right now it would be emulating ppc code with rosetta
Thanks, but could you dumb that down for me a tad?
Powerbooks run on power pc processors, macbooks run on intel. Because of apple's switch to intel hardware the programs that run on power pc processors need an emulator called Rosetta. Rosetta runs seamlessly in the background but it can cause a slight slow down. The only way to run programs full speed is if they have universal binary meaning they work on both processors. Eventually all programs will switch to universal but it takes time. Find out first whether the programs you'll need will have to run in rosetta.
Thank ya kindly
No problemo, anytime.
what is that cable (right of the kb)?? ne came with my ibook and I have no idea what it does or plugs into.
its the extension power cable probably.
pull the plug off your power adaptor and you extend the cable
