I can't wait for disability pay
What exactly is disability pay?
If you get a disability rating from the VA based upon your time in service you get paid once a month for the rest of your life based on the percentage.
For example if you're hurt while on Active Duty and receive a medical discharge you should get a disability rating. You'll then receive severance pay, which is based upon your disability rating, time in service and rank. Then a few years later you'll start receiving a check from the VA every month on the 1st.
Think of your severance pay as a loan from the VA, for example if you get $5,000 in severance and your disability payment is $100 a month it will take you 50 months (a little over 4 years) before you'll see a check from the VA.
It's nice because of course it's all tax free, and you don't have to worry about ever being reduced in rating so the money can never go down only up. The payments also go up a few bucks every year, it's obviously not a lot, but it's better than nothing.
