[Hogue overmold stock and 20" green mountain bull barrel.]I won't have a chance to shoot it until after I get back from my parents' house after Christmas. Apparently you need some kind of permit to shoot a gun in IL :dunno:. Taking out the factory barrel from the receiver was a real PITA, but surprisingly the new GM barrel slid right in which is a shocker because from what I've heard you basically have to sand down the barrel port in the receiver to get them to fit.

I'm 100% pleased with the way it looks and feels. It's an entirely different gun. I hate the way the factory 10/22 looks and feels like a toy gun.

Oh yeah, free floating barrel FTW. I didn't even have to do any sanding, I can slide a dollar bill the full length to the receiver.

If you live here you need to have a foid card to touch a gun at the gun shop, own a single round of ammunition or to have a gun. As an out of state person you should be able to show any range your out of state DL to shoot.

Good to know, I was going to bring it with me anyway to show my dad but all the gun range websites say you need a permit to shoot. :dunno: Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone still told you that you can't shoot because everyone has in IL has to be super cautious but it isn't required and out of state people can't even get a foid card.

The barrel was $80, and the stock was $59 (both were on sale, and still are.) I got them both from www.natchezss.com and I can't recommend them enough. Their prices are awesome and they usually ship the same day. With standard delivery it got here 2 days after I ordered it. :)

Nice, what do you plan on doing for trigger internals? I got a handful of parts on order (target hammer, bolt buffer, auto bolt release, etc.) Can't wait for that to get here. I'll let you guys know how it shoots as soon as I get a chance to hit up the range.

My only complaint is how the gun is balanced now. The stock is pretty lightweight and the barrel weighs probably twice as much as the factory barrel, so the center of gravity is waaay forward. I mostly shoot off the bench though so it's no biggie.

How hard was the install? A local OTer offered me a 10/22 and in thinking of picking it up to replace my Mossberg .22.

:hs: Thats what im kinda worried about. I dont want to fuck around with it too much, and i dont want to improperly install it...even more so because i would be selling my scoped Mossberg that I am, for the most part, completely happy with.

It's normally a very easy thing. It was hard for me because I did it while extremely hung over so I had a hard time concentrating. Just pop the gun out of the stock, take off the v-block, twist the barrel until it breaks free, pull it out, lube up new barrel and slide it in, reattach v-block and you're done. I was lucky because my GM barrel slid right in, but I've heard people trying various things to get it to fit right such as baking the receiver and freezing the barrel, sanding the barrel port on the receiver, etc. Either way it's basically impossible to mess it up.
