Well I have a feeling this isn't very good so I thought I'd ask your opinions. The bar moves on a strict path up and down and is connected by two diagonal arms to the cage not allowing it to move side by side. I know this is obviously not as good as free squats, but currently is all I have access too. I was wondering what muscle groups this might neglect?

that's a smith machine. and it takes alot of the stabilization out of an exercise as well as obviously conforming the bar to a set path. it has it's uses, but i wouldn't do regular back squats with it.

is it a machine designed specifically for squats? my gym has one of those. but yeah, it'd have the same problems as a smith machine.

i was wondering how long it would take for that to make its way over here

^Not what I was trying to draw, the struts are diagonal on this so they are in front of you, but same concept. You can only do squats on this one too.
