Saab will offer a first look at the production version of its 9-2X at the Los Angeles auto show late this month.

There will be two versions: the turbocharged, 227-hp 9-2X Aero, shown here, with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine and a naturally aspirated 165-hp, 2.5-liter Linear model.

Both models will have standard all-wheel drive and go on sale in July. Prices will begin under $25,000. General Motors' affiliate Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. will produce the 9-2X for Saab in Japan.

Too bad the 9-3 isnt AWD, or else I would seriously consider buying one in the future.

It probably will offer AWD in the near future, as well as 250HP.

The Saab 9-3 is, IMO, one of the most beautiful sedans ever designed.

    Let's see...

A Toyota Corolla base Pontiac, which use to belong to Geo/Chevy,
    A Honda powered Saturn,
and now a Subaru Impreza base Saab.

Next up a Nissan based Buick. :eek3:

So you can get a rebadged Impreza 2.5 RS for the price of an Impreza WRX. :ugh2:

I would mess my pants 10 times over if they released that.

A 9-2X Viggen with the STi motor would be very nice. I doubt Saab will do it though, because the current GD-chassis Impreza will be replaced in either '06 or '07. The next 9-2X will be able to include more Saab cues, since they will be able to have more of a share in development.

It's really not a bad match when you think about it. Both companies are big on safety and turbo engines. Now the 9-8X, based on the Trailblazer is a really bad idea.

Only if it was strictly a light restyle job in and out, which it's been reported it isn't (the major body panels, the entire interior, etc. is all Saab exclusive).

They took everything that was ugly about the WRX wagon and fixed it.:bigthumb: I might have finally found the wifes new family wagon.

Someone should tell Saab to go back to the drawing board and make it more Saabish. :o

The Sedan version is one of the best small 4 door cars I have seen. It is what the WRX remodel should have looked like, sleek and fast.

That's the best they could do with a car whose development they didn't have a part in. The GD Impreza made its debut back in 2000, and Saab just decided to do the 9-2 sometime in late '02. It was amazing that they were able to turn it out so soon.

Saab will have a say in how the next Impreza will be developed, since it will be planned as a 9-2X from the start. You can expect that one to be more 'Saabish.'

Consider that for the same price, you will soon be able to get an all-new Legacy.
