MMA The Revolving Door at 205

Here's my thoughts on the 205 title situation. I'm making some assumptions here, nothing farfetched.

Firstly, Evans will beat Griffin to become the new 205 champ. Griffin's biggest strenght in the Rampage plan was his couture gameplan. That won't be the case vs Evans, as Jackson's camp is the only camp with better gameplanning than couture. I see this being either a decision win, or late round stoppage via TKO/KO for Evans. Forrest doesn't have the KO power or wrestling to keep Evans at bay. Rashad has a big speed advantage and will fight the smarter fights.

Secondly, Wanderlei is going to hurt Rampage something fierce. Again. Silva is in a much better frame of mind, have you seen him not grinning ear to ear in the past year? Coupled with his excellent training reand renewed sense of self from his victory over Jardine, he is going to overwhelm Rampage once again. Let's face it, Rampage is a basket case, was was overhyped, and is in for a thrasing.

Logically, this would set up Evans vs W.Silva sometime in April. Wanderlei takes this fight, either by a submission off his back, or axe murdering KO. Evans has never fought anyone nearly as aggressive as Silva (Liddell is typically a counterpuncher) and will be overwhelmed if he doesn't take the fight to silva.

Silva's first (and only) defense will be against Machida. (A.silva will defer 'his' shot to Machida, and will only fight in the 'marquee' 205 bouts). Machida will play the matador to Silva's raging bull and get a close, but unanimous decision.

Assuming this fight happens sometime in August we will have had five 205 champs in a year and a half

This is a totally awesome scenario, and is a result of the UFC having the 205 market cornered.

And who knows, Arona might throw his hat in the right and get a fortouitous shot against Machida this time next year.

Anyways, highly speculative post - this forum needs more MMA talk and less talk of turkeys and advertising.

    Lets hear some other opinions!

I agree that Evans will beat Griffin, the rest I'm not too sure about...I think that W. Silva will beat Rampage but it's a little bit of a toss up

I think that Evans will probably get to defend against Rampage or Wanderlei first, maybe Machida but it's doubtful unless one of the other guys can't fight due to injury

Machida is fighting on the Jan31st card, so he won't be ready until at least May.

This is all hypothetical, barring injuries, and goddamn TuF.

If they put 205 on hold for TuF again i'm going to shit somebodies pants.

    Evans will not beat Griffin.
    Rampage will beat Rampage.
Machida will never get a title shot.
TUF will somehow fuck up defenses.
Ross Pointon will jump in the mix and take the belt from Wanderlei

Evans will beat griffin, Rampage will TKO Wandy, Machida will decision Rampage, and then Machida will sub Evans and be LHW champion for as long as he wants.

Have you forgotten ortiz vs griffin. In that fight tito and forrest had a war and tito managed to win a controversial decision. In that fight he went toe to toe with tito. Rashad on the other hand was getting over powered and out wrestled by tito. I think forest griffins wrestling is underated. I think his wrestling will be on par with rashads, that wont be the factor. I think forrests bjj skills will be what ends up making the difference. He will be able to use his bjj to secure a decision win or sub him.

205 is just amazing right now. I want to see these matchups start unfolding already!

Rampage was fighter of the year last year in many peoples' books (if not that, 2nd to Anderson Silva) and his rematch with Silva could be one of the best fights we've seen for years, providing Rampage has his head right (which is a huuuge if).

The only thing I wish is that it would be a 5 round super-fight, because if it somehow goes 3 rounds, I'm guaranteed to be wanting more just like Liddell v Silva.

On top of all these monster match-ups, there are also hungry dark horses like Cane and T.Silva waiting in the wings + Vera, Jardine etc. Sickening! And some fellow nicknamed Shogun?
