The reason to work out

    So why do you guys work out?

    Is it for the personal satisfaction of reaching that goal?

    Were you fat your whole life and have found a new healthy way of living that promotes optimism?

    Do you do it for the health benefits it allows you to have now and in the future as your heart and muscles are stronger to avoid problems later?

    Or...

    Is it for a wedding in a week?
    Is college coming up and you want nice biceps?
    Are you just a plain old tool?

    What fucking DRIVES you?


    For me? A bit of everything. I have a history of diabetes in the family, I was very overweight in middle school and a bit of high school, I was depressed over family issues, and I really wanted to feel proud of something.

    It seems like during the summer time people forget the real reason to be fit. It should be for personal satisfaction and healthfully practical. You should NOT lift because you want women. In my opinion you are bastardizing and mocking this lifestyle.

    Yes, this is a bit of a rant but I really am interested in understanding your motives.

    Aesthetics is part of it because I've never been a skinny kid. Before dinner I weighed in at 137.5 lbs. :) (still have some fat to lose though). I hate laziness at work, and as a stock processor ([email protected]) I enjoy not having to use that equipment or being able to carry more than my supervisor expects me to and being more efficient. Maybe most importantly, I find it recreational.

    I suppose what drives me is the fact that since I've starting getting in shape, I get more attention from women and respect from guys... I feel a sence of pride when I'm the most fit person in the room. I'm very vein person apparently :hs:

    my reason is this: when i was 16 years old i got my drivers license and it lists me as 6'2, 155lbs. last february, 4.5 years after i got my license, i was 6'3, 158 pounds. i saw that as a problem.

    i've always been the skinny kid, and people have always been telling me that "oh, you'll fill out eventually." well, i haven't. i'm tired of being so skinny. i don't want to get huge, i just want to put some muscle on for a number of reasons. the health benefits, the self-confidence that comes with having a muscular build, attention from girls and respect from guys like price is right was saying.

    I'm sensitive and feel insecure when around 3 black guys and want to change that. I enjoy the rush it gives you. Society looks up to you.

    I was always thin my whole life, but when I met my husband and moved in with him I gained like 25 lbs. I actually thought I looked sexy, but then I got engaged and was like, "WTF I'm so fat." :mamoru:

    I started working out and I lost all the weight and I just feel sooo good and look better than ever since I do weights too. I love leaving the gym feeling stoned from working out so hard too. Plus, I get checked out more than ever. :o

    I'm not asking because I don't understand. Quite the contraire. There's absolutely an element that's difficult to understand. It's beyond aesthetic or cause-motivated. It very much becomes burned in your character.

    Some people like having a career, some people like creating things, and I like lifting weights. Maybe its too simple, but its just what i like doing. I'd rather go to the gym than to a bar.

    my license says 6'3 240lbs and I lied and was really 290lb when I got it. Then I went to 375lbs and then I said oh fuck! Thats my reason for owrking out

    Yeah I know what you mean.

    For me it's kinda gone beyond any reasons like "To look good" or "for the chicks" or "to bench press 300lbs." When I started it was just to get stronger for football in high school and thats when I discovered my love of the iron. Almost all my friends stopped lifting after that but I just kept going...Getting jacked and looking good will be a nice side effect once I un-fat myself.

    Honestly, I mostly workout to attract chicks. But shit, if it makes me healthier, stronger, etc, why not? Helps a fuckton for basketball too.
