I'v driven one, the tiptronic 6 speed in them is perfect. There is no other description for it, the 272hp streight 6 engine is very nice too. Silky smooth with lots of torque.

The biggest problem is, its FWD. You notice it too trying to put so much power through the front wheels, it torque steers severely. Plus, dynamicly, it doesnt touch the Holden. Which is the biggest problem. Im not sure why Toyota insist on using FWD, there trying to appeal to the market they obviously dont understand.

272hp fwd? what the hell is toyota thinking

especially considering this is geared for the aussie market where road conditions are ideal (ie no snow, ice, little rain)

Yep its idiotic. For most people they will never notice the understeer, but considering it is the 'sports' model. Its severely dynamicly flawed.

The funny thing is, to compete with the SS Commodore (Pontiac G8) / Ford XR6Turbo, they proposed this:

Yep, 235kw is 315 horsepower... through the front wheels, with the boosted torque. Its rediculous.

they were thinking they could rebadge the camry and sell it as something else over there. they probably just didn't see the benefit in the R&D that would be involved in making the thing RWD. I mean it's not like a RWD camry would have that huge of a market back here :dunno:

    v. Camry with different clothes.

    I'd be happy with a V6 camry with a 6 speed manual.

The lengths Toyota goes to compete with the VE Commo/BF Falcon lol

They're appealing to people who want a nice, fast car that they might have to use to drive to work in snow. Have any of you ever tried to drive a front-engined, rear-wheel-driven car uphill in snow? How about downhill in snow? You'll have to reupholster the seats by the time you get home.

272HP is perfectly manageable on a FWD sedan with an automatic transmission. Maybe not with stock tires, but it's perfectly manageable with the addition of some nice 235mm Michelin Pilots.

They had that, it was called the Cressida.

We see which one survived when it came time to make the entry-level Lexus.

    Mazda's 929 shared a similar fate.
