Can anybody clue me in on the officer experience, like what type of change it'll be for somebody like myself who's a disclipned person that has mainly worked civilian technician-based jobs w/ little to no leadership involved and various other life aspects of being a officer? Is it easy to be let go in one of these positions as well?

Nothing worth having is easy. Colonel @ Marine OCS

The only think I really know about is the Marine system, because thats what I am looking into.

You have to go to OCS a ten week boot camp like scenario, where they weed out people who have no business leading marines. You have to be in great shape (part of hte application process is a pft or physical fitness test)

to be competitive you need a 225,
there are three exercises, a 3 mile run, sit ups, and chin ups, you need to run the 3 miles between 6-8 minutes if you want to be really competitive

so then you bundle your pft with your work experience, and academics and apply. You get selected for an OCS...then you go to OCS and try to survive.

    http://www.marinetimes.com/class186/index.php (this is ocs videos)

then you get commissioned at the end and go to TBS (THE BASIC SCHOOL) here is where you basically learn all the actual soldier type stuff (OCS is about weeding you out more than anything, because you cant hack the pressure / mind games, than teaching you anything).

    TBS = 6 months

then after that, you go to your MOS (what kind of job you get) school, which mine will be NJS, Naval Justice School, and those vary...

on a side note, only air and law contracts are guaranteed thier MOS, everyone else gets to rank thiers and based on thier performance at TBS and the needs of the Corps....

then you finish that, and then you get your first tour.

It is not easy to do, and they WILL test your desire to truly do it. Which is why I am thinking long and hard about it.

If you can do this, you need to be in the olympics.

The Olympic record for the 5km (3.1miles) is like 12:37. He'd be above and beyond top Ethiopian Runners (who pretty much just sprint the whole way.)

It will be a total change in how you view things. Officers are not necessarily in charge of a group of people. They are more of the planner/observer/clean-upper of a unit. Also at this point and time, it is a lot harder to resign your commision due to the lack of officers in the military.

you will also need to get some college time in there.

Any officer that resigns his commission is not a smart man. He should just separate from the military.
Oh and the AF is kicking officers out.

I don't know about the other branches but the Army doesn't. You can't be a 2LT unless you have completed your 4 year degree.

Negative, you actually only need 60 credit hours. But you can only commission into the Reserve or Guard and you have to complete your degree within 3 years.

I of course meant active duty, hence the reason I said Army and didn't say ANG or Army reserves. I'll be sure to specify further next time :)

This is not true. You have a year to complete your degree after commissioning.

Please refer to my post above yours. I explained that when I made the comment I was refering to active duty and not the reserves or national guard. Also, my reply was directed to someone who is not currently in the military and wanting to know what the requirements were to becoming an officer.
