    This is always fun.

<--- ex army and air force.

That reminds me of a good one. Why does the navy keep marines on their ships?

Cause sheep would be too obvious. Budump ching

I'm pretty sure today's basic training/bootcamp are tougher than in the past for two reasons
    1) today's recruits know that they will be going to war. I'm sure that alone will motivate them to take their training more seriously.
    2) drill sergeants already had their time in the sandbox and they know what they are talking about

I'm not surprised by the responses in this thread because everyone wants to believe that his generation is the "toughest".

    btw, I went to BCT/AIT in 2000

Yeah I agree with Phantom. Basic was a joke to me and was often referred to as the "kinder, gentler Army".

We had this one chick that fell out of EVERY ruck march and still made it to graduation. It was a serious let down to the rest of us who were hoping she'd at least wash back.

Geek: What month and where did you go? I was C 3-10 from Aug to Oct at Lost in the Woods, Misery.

You can't be serious. You're telling me boot camp of today is tougher than during Vietnam? Korea? WWII? Those guys didn't only know they were going to war, they pretty much knew they were going to die.:ugh2:

that is true, but one of my wife's drills went through benning about 2 years after me. He was in the same battalion and same company as me, even had a couple drills that i had and He said the basic training now is way softer than before.

I'll be the first to say that Initial Officer Basic Courses are now harder than they used to be. :o (They have made the 'Advance Camps' more easy as cadets and added an intense training course @ FT Benning for ALL brand new LT's)

    That makes sense.

I agree 100% with the editorial. Even the Warrior Transition Course that I went through was taken away from the Infantry basic training at Ft. Knox and given to the Guard at White Sands. The guys that graduate from White Sands all say it is now more like a "gentleman's course" than basic. I'm proud to say that when I went through it, it was more like a "You're in the fucking ARMY now!" than a "Welcome to the army, we're glad you came." :hay:
