They sell a quad core too... but who gives a shit about that.
Shit is so ridiculously expensive.
And that's coming from a mac user. I have a MBP but would never pay for a Mac Pro.
What a waste of money. Way to go Apple. Almost as bad as the new mac minis. Guess Apple fanboys will pay anything....
(this is coming from someone who worked at the Apple store)
When I was buying mine, I went on Dell's website to see if I could build the same Xeon processor, RAM compatible, and fast system. Something that was close to the one I was buying. With the money I was spending on the computer and RAM (from crucial), the Dell was over $1000 more for the same computer and w/ Vista
I think for the people that use Mac Pros, its a justifiable expense... just like anything else.
see, now THIS is something I could spend the $ on.
(if I didn't just get 8 core version of the last generation....)
i'm a buy a crazy new macbook pro next.
Mac Pro ftmfw
I hate macs.
$120 video card
$70 hard drive
and it costs $3300
I want one.
what do you use?
I want one too.
I don't play games anymore and thinking about selling my dell xps420
I don't really need 8 cores though. My xps with quad core is more than sufficient.
I wish resale values weren't insane on apple products either. I'd really like a desktop for lightroom use but I cant see dropping that much for the new macpro. Hell I could live with a dual core machine but the used price of them is still ridiculous. I love apple resale when I sell my old machines but not when I'm looking for a used one for myself.
they have some killer deals on refurbs.
MBP and a PC.
Current macbook is a refurb. I only see one macpro on there @ $4k. Definitely out of my price range. I've thought about imac's but I don't like the thought of being tied to that monitor.
And they hate you too.
While I can see your point, there is just so much more that the OS, case, etc. offers other than just tech specs. Im sure they can build the Mac Pro with several other options like Dell but then they'd have to support that many more options. By keeping it simple to the point where they know who will be buying these can definitely benefit from the parts and power capable, they'll sell and people will buy.
all i gotta say is my Mac G5 at work is amazing, i'd almost pay any price to have a home version. works flawlessly
I really wanted one, but then saw the price.
I decided that I can build a comparable if not better system for half the price. So I will go that route and build my first system, since mine is getting pretty dated
As Girth said, if you actually try to build the SAME system with a PC you cannot do it for the same price. But you have to make sure you use the SAME things. There are other Xeon processors, so use the same ones and spec it out exactly and you'll find the price is not that crazy.
Now, do you need that stuff, that is another question and maybe you dont and it is overpriced. But dont say they're overpriced when the actual machines with the same parts are not any different than a PC with the same parts.
we've got a 2yr old g5 or power mac or whatever that we use in the studio. I think it's a 2X dual core or whatever. It's pretty meh-nificent.
I would use the SAME parts but I don't think newegg even sells the 2.26ghz Xeons
My MBP is feeling pretty dated these days
Hell, you can put OSX on most PC hardware now a days...so the OS argument does not really work.
