Any one heard about it? Just saw it in Walmart, thought "wow, small bore, and realized I was comparing it to that of a .22!!

Uh no offense, but do you live under a rock? The .17HMR was on the cover of American Rifleman around 2 years ago. I was thinking about getting one since Dick's has savages chambered in it for only $150 but after reading chuck hawks' review of it ( http://www.chuckhawks.com/17HMR.htm ) I think I'll opt for something like a .223 or wait for H&R to bring out a .22-250 Ultra Varmint early which should be out in a couple months.

Yeah, it was never meant to compete with the likes of a .223 or .22-250, so keep that in mind.

I think the fact that it's maximum killing distance is around 160 yards makes that horribly obvious. .223 or .22-250 would make for a much better varmit gun.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm just not as impressed with the 17 after I read Chuck Hawks' review.

that, and the fact that for the price, you could get a shitload more .22 LR than .17HMR

    :werd:

for the cost of 50 .17 shells you could get about 250 .22 shells.

.17HMR uses a neck-down .22WMR case yet the price is about double for 50rnds :ugh:
