The biggest myth is that stuff is cheaper at the gun show. From what I have seen/heard, the typical gun sold at a gun show around here sells for $100 or more than what I can buy that same gun from my local FFL/dealer for.

Those are your typical "I'm not rascist, I have a black friend" folks.

why not ban all cars that go faster than 65mph? no reason to have them. we should ban all SUVs too considering most of them never go off roading.

Gun show prices are highly location and politically dependent.

6 months ago, the gun show was cheaper than the gun store. Post Obamanation, it's the opposite.

what is the gunshow loophole anyway?

a way to bypass the background check?

every gun ive bought at a gunshow i took a background check for.

It's something that doesn't exist. Sales by federally licensed dealers are regulated, no matter where they take place. Face to face sales by private citizens are not, no matter where they take place.

The alleged "loophole" is that you can go to a gun show and buy a gun without a background check. IF you buy it from a private citizen.

The so-called loophole is just language to make you think something bad is going on. The agenda is to require background checks on private sales at gun shows, and then extend that to ALL private sales. And then, of course, the next step will be to close off the NICS system to private entities, and make you go through either the police or an FFL dealer, effectively eliminating all private sales.

I will answer this with the same argument I use when someone whips out Irreducible Complexity in an evolution debate: just because you can't think of a reasonable use for something, doesn't mean there isn't one.

As much as I don't like the idea of people carrying around guns better than what the cops have, I don't want the only people packing heat to be government employees either. Power only corrupts when it can be sure it will never wake up dead one morning.

I found a Saiga 12ga at a show for $580 whereas all the local stores wanted $650. Prices at shows are hit or miss just like local stores.

I purchased a new XD M 9mm for ~100-150 cheaper than I see online, and an Insight M6 Light/Laser for ~75-150 cheaper than I see online at a fun show.

They call it a gunshow loophole because private people can sell to someone without a background check and some people sell their private arms at gun shows. it's absolutely no different than doing a private ftf transaction at any other location.
